Unless I should carry a couple of coins for the ferryman just in case I come across a dead body in the woods?

Why do that when you can drag it home and make a lamp or something?

I always carry cash. And coins. I recently came into the possession of a whole bunch of silver dollars, the huge ones with Robert Duvall or whoever the fuck that is on the head. Nobody wants to take them. The bank doesn't even have rollers for them. It's like they're worthless.

^^Yes, in the U. S. there is no Federal law or requirement for a bank to accept dollar coins (or $ 2 bills either). There may be a few states that have some sort of requirement; but, they would be few and far between. However true silver dollars, those minted prior to 1964, do have value, especially for collectors. The Eisenhower dollars, which I'm guessing are the ones you mentioned, were minted in such quantities that most are only worth face value, or one dollar

But I learned my lesson one time when the interac and credit card system went down and we needed gas while travelling.

In 2012 I took my family to Disneyland. We decided to drive. Two cars with me paying for gas for both. Turns out a lot of stations only allow a card to be used once in a certain time. Learned the hard way when we had to wait since I had no cash on me.
