....go into a thread you know for a fact is likely to piss you right off, or is a subject that you have no interest in what so ever just so you can say "this shit pisses me off!...." then launch into arguments or just to tell everyone how little you care about the subject of the thread?

I read a lot of threads around here but don't post often, simply because if a thread makes me angry but I know that posting would only be antagonistic and make me even angrier....I don't post.

If the thread is interesting but I don't really have anything constructive to add....I don't post, I just subscribe and keep reading it to see how the conversation progresses and post later.

then there are the threads I start myself that often go right off the rails into silly jokes because I am bored hehe

This one. . . mostly.

That and the fact that I'm growing rather tired of being told I'm not entitled to an opinion and, what's more, I'm not entitled to express it.

*ignore me*

its late and I am dumb hehe re-read what you wrote a few times before it clicked in my head what you meant!

I agree, get kinda tired of being told my opinion isnt valid "because your a woman wtf do you know"

You post more frequently during full moons tho, and you go mental during solar eclipse. ..|

well thats pretty much a given for my kind ;)
like a good lunar eclipse sometimes too, bit of downtime and a nice red moon (unless the weather sucks where you live and you dont get to see it)

I'm a lover, not a fighter, and I think that shows in the vast majority of my posts & threads. :D

Big Sunday morning hug to everyone!!!

I destroy often.

Apparently, I don't subscribe to the notion of shutting up much, but I do know where not to tread.

Usually, I'll hover over the title of a thread on the index, and if there's any 'trigger words' noticeable in the OP that usually start the same five flame wars we see on JUB, then I wont bother checking it out.

Half of the time I open a thread, my intended reply is so generic that it's usually already been stated by at least two people before me. There's no point restating what's already been enunciated (usually more eloquently than my own reply would have been) so I just move on, and maybe leave a forum comment to them saying I agree.

I try to avoid 'public conflict' though, because when it's known that other people are 'watching', egos get caught up in it and it goes nowhere. Most of the posting on JUB is done when I'm sound asleep anyway, so usually if someone steps out of line, they've already been called out on it by the time I see the thread. Besides, JUB has enough members that are far too quick to get the claws out, I needn't add to that number (not that it's in my nature anyway).

I don't get pissed off so easily now at JUB. After several years, you grow to accept that this is kinda normal.

No. I consider it the same as trolling.

I would rather post something totally off topic, like a video of a rabbit attacking Lady Gaga in the shower (which doesn't exist at the first place).

does anyone take threads personally? read a meaning into them that makes it about You and find it affecting the way you post within the thread? or stop you posting in the thread but then feel the need to leave an offensive comment?

I don't take anything posted on JUB very seriously nowadays, and I certainly don't take anything personally; this isn't real-life. Which is why most of my posts are merely flippant throw-away trivial comments. My days of wasting my time posting serious lengthy considered responses are long gone.

I used to spend a lot of time carefully composing rational posts to try and get a point across in a thread with a serious topic, only to get completely attacked at every angle for no other reason than my gender in many cases and I just gave up.

I realise this is a message forum primarily for men but we are all people, I had thought an open discussion and debate could still happen.

I was wrong and now tend to keep my posts to myself

As far as I am concerned you are more than welcome here, and you are as entitled to post your opinions as anyone else. ..|

No.

I ignore a great many subjects which do not interest me.

I do occasionally enter threads I disagree with for the purpose of engaging in civil debate, or at the very least, posting informed opinions.

I believe that is how message boards best function.

If you yearn for an open discussion and debate, one thing you must learn to accept that people are going to come in and tear you apart and venomously disagree with everything you say. JUB is not a school hall where debating teams take their seat to fight it out in a gentlemanly manner. It is an internet forum where mostly anonymous people post with other people they don't have to pretend to care about. You want a discussion, it's not possible to work on your terms.

I think you care too much. In my opinion, you should carry on crafting your rational posts and try not to care about their rebuttals.

And honestly, I miss your posts.

This is kinda how I have been trying to behave now. Remember that people don't really know me and I don't really know them and we're just sharing opinions. I think that it is a very human response though, to feel like someone is taking shots at you despite their lack of knowledge of who you are. It's a tough situation. On the one hand, why take it so personally? On the other, as a person behind the avatar, why shouldn't I? Sometimes we get into a state of mind that makes us already feel unworthy. And we bring that to our postings and readings here. It's a human response. No matter how many times we try to define a message board as strangers in a strange land, we're all people here. And as humans, opinions matter. It is why we post our naked dicks in show yourself off. It is why we use avatars to show who we are. We need acceptance.

we?

anyway

:-)
