Do you feel guilty downloading songs from the Net?

I usually download Dance remixes, the type that you can rarely find on CD. Plus I download a song from an album to see if the CD of that artist is good.

I never really felt guilty, but I don't do it anymore. One of my friends got sued for that and is still fighting the battle. I usually just go to the Walmart downloads for .88 per song. I don't get that many, but it's nice to have the ability when I want a certain song.

All the songs I used to download, I've ultimately gone out and bought the albums for. Now, I just use iTunes. My biggest thing is that I'm really into J-Pop and since iTunes won't let me access the same stuff they can aaccess in Japan, I try to hunt down the MP3s once in a while. I don't feel guilty, considering if I'm looking for samples of bands, it'd cost me $35 per CD to import from another country with no guarantee I'll even like it...

TaigaStar had a good point. Most songs I download Jpop, Cpop or Kpop. I suppose it doesn't make it right - but there are so many sites to download Asian music for free, and it's not like I can get it for 99 cents from Wal*mart or iTunes. When I was *in* China I bought the CD's from the store.

Not at all...

It really is a great way to advertise and get the word out. There are always going to be people that buy full albums as they are a collectors keepsake. The people that are downloading are usually the same people that were making "mix tapes" in the 80's/

Many people forget that there are a few steps in getting pirate stuff and there are many people that will giveup after the first step.

Nope.

If I like enough of the material I will go out and buy the album in the end, so no harm done. iTunes is not an option here in .za for single track downloads because Apple won't accept .za issued Visa/Mastercard/Diners/AmEx even though they flog the iPod down here, so I get my mp3s from other sources.

If I don't like the material I wouldn't have bought the album, so they aren't losing any money from me at all. I can say that firmly in the knowlege that there are only 2 bands whose material I will purchase without having heard a single track; everything else is evaluated a lot more thoroughly before I buy it.

No.

If I download something I don't like, I delete. If I like it really much, I most likely buy the cd.

I think most of us use the downloading to find out if we really like the song...and if we do we end up buying it from Itunes or whom ever....and if we download, we do NOT share it with anyone, just for our own consumption.

No, I don't think anyone should feel guilty...(*8*) (*8*)

Sometimes , but 99% of the time i get them from i-tunes

I only download from Itunes now...I still will buy the entire "album" (do they still call it that?) if I like the artist or the new music. I think I have spent millions on downloading since I got my Ipod...

Not really. People have been sharing music for years. Long before the internet came along.

Downloading music is still legal in Canada. Even if it wasn't, I wouldn't feel bad.

Studies have shown that users who download music actually purchase more of it legally than other people who don't illegally download.
