one jubbite refers to another with a "Christian", "average", "normal" name like "Neil", "John"... whatever? ...
I always go with people's usernames (not just here, but on any site)...to me it would seem odd to use someone's actual name..

I've met one JUBber in person, and called him by a shortend version of his username..Rickrock said:If there were a meet and you met them in person, I would expect that you would exchange real names with them and not call them by their username at the meet and maybe not on this site.
No, I don't find it weird. I assume that they have developed a friendship and it is a more personal form of addressing them. It makes it seem more personal and human. I didn't think about blowing anyone's cover, but I don't think that it matters in most cases.
I believe Pat is right with posts #22 and #26.
I get the sense that people are sort of bragging about their 'intimacy' with other members.

I totally concur. If the member has posted their name in a public forum, and you are not betraying a personal private message, as Pat suggests. Then in my opinion it shows a degree of friendship which has developed over time.
Really? You honestly believe that people are "bragging" because they call a friend by their christian name?
If they have no problem being called by their name, then i really don't see why you should have a problem with it.
Information like that shouldn't be spread around to anyone on the internet— and especially for those JUBbers we keep on Ignore.
Yes, really. That's why I said it. It's a small thing, but it is sort of rude.
Also, not everybody knows everybody's christian name. So, it often excludes people when not addressing them directly, forcing them to guess who is being talked about.
It's betraying something said in confidence within the Personal Messages.

I understand what you're saying. Adam (medic1) is a good example of that. I had no idea who Adam was when people used his real name until it became clear who it was. I guess I would not just assume someone is okay with you using their real name in public just because they shared it in a PM. If I PM with someone, I never sign it Sixthson, but it is my identity here more than Dan is.
I do wonder, are there long time, regular posters here that no one knows their real first name?
