Do you get embarrassed by admitting you get tested for HIV, TB, and/or Hepatitis?

I have noticed when I go in to get tested most people point to a sign (on the counter for that purpose) when asked what they are there for. I have also noticed most people never look up while in the waiting room.

Is there shame to be had for being tested? Is it not a good thing?

You aren't there to socialize and meet people, lol. You are there to get tested. People are worried and scared. It's a mind fuck getting tested. Everyone thinks "what if?". And they have you point to a sign, which I have never see, so that it's kept private for you. You are looking at it wrong. You should be embarrassed NOT to do it. If you have reason to be checked out than you should.

I'd be ashamed if I didn't get tested..It's good to know your status with these things..

Like anything else,if you detect it early, there are a lot more treatment options.Ignore it all you want, doesn't make it go away..

Nope, not at all. Probably because the municipal health services have one waiting room for everything, including travel health etc. And even if that weren't the case, I wouldn't care. In fact, I think next time you're there you should go up to every single person and tell them they rock for being responsible enough to get tested. ..|

(if you can stand the "wow, crazy guy" looks you'll be getting, of course ;))

I get people are worried, but everyone in the room is either getting tested for something or about to find out their results from when they were.

I guess I just see it as they should be proud for getting tested and not be so worried about others knowing what test(s) they are taking.

I've been tested for colon cancer, for hemorrhoids, and all sorts of "embarrassing" things. I can't see as getting embarrassed about any of it.

I'd respect that, not mock it.

I've always been candid with guys about that kind of thing. I've even been known to ask on a first date. Only one guy was ever offended, and I soon learned he was a total fucking slut. Thank god I had recently upgraded my slut-dar and didn’t touch him with a 10’ pole.

I think good guys are proud to let their partners know they take care of themselves. Only dirty boys have something to hide. ;)

Nope, why would I be embarrassed about making sure I'm healthy?

Quoted for truth.

Examinations for the sake of health are not to be discouraged about even if the results are highly possibly positive.

No. It's my responsibility to make sure that I stay healthy. I am not immune from getting something by virtue of being a top. Everyone should be getting tested.

Wow ... you have a 10' pole? (ww)

Can I see it? :D

Anyway ... I even got kinda embarrassed getting vaccinated for both Hepatitis A and B. Not that I ever would need that protection, as the only thing going on in my bedroom is a whole lot of ... :help:

i was nervous the first time i got tested, but only because i had heard horror stories from other people. i have no reason to be embarrassed about getting tested. like someone else said, it could be the circumstances of being tested.

I've never had to announce it in the waiting room. I make an appointment to see my GP and he conducts the test, the receptionists never ask what my appointment is regarding.

I've always found it interesting how people are embarrassed for whatever it may be that they're at the doctor's office for. Your health is worth more than your pride.

I've called and e-mailed offices to inquire about testing, and i've ordered an at-home HIV test.

The people knowing that I wanted to get tested for HIV didn't bother me at all; I was too worried about whether or not it was going to be positive or negative.

Even though it's a responsible thing to do, you have to remember that sometimes a person has specific reasons for getting tested and it might be more to do with that, which is why they might feel awkward.

Ordinarily I would agree with you. Having seen the people I am talking about though, they look more embarrassed than scared. They do little things like hide their faces, keep their heads down - even when walking, etc.

In general the area we are in doesn’t give much privacy. You can point for what tests you’re there for, but you still have to say your name and other info which can be heard by everyone. Also if you’re like me and have been there before and for different things, you can tell what people are being seen for. They have different people for each test so they can specialize.

I go to the county health department. They seem better at it than others anyway. They made sure I got all of my shots and test done. Something my ex doctor never did.

Be embarrassed in front of people who I would probably never see again in my life or potentially die...hmm

I really don't care...I announced it on Facebook and it encouraged my friends to get tested.
