Do you grind your own coffee beans ?

I did an experiment last year and found that grinding my own and using a drip-filter (and microwave) was as economical as using a high-quality granular instant coffee.

But I gave up because it takes so long.
 
I have a grinder but never use it. It seems like when you grind your own you have to use twice as much coffee to make a good strong pot vs. buying the stuff that's already ground. And the noise. Hate it. ;)
 
There's nothing like freshly ground coffee.
Though I have to admit, when I'm lazy I reach for the ready ground stuff!
 
I do from time to time. Depends what's in the freezer.

We have a plunger, a drip filter, a grinder, beans, grounds (2 types) and a jar of instant coffee in my office. To say that we find the wonders of coffee more a necessity than a luxury would be like saying breathing is sort-of useful to keep yourself alive.

Back when I was drinking coffee, I would grind my own at the store.
 
When I drank coffee there was a period where I would grind my own coffee years ago. Now I live caffeine free (or as caffeine free as possible), so I don't drink coffee.
 
I must confess to being really spoiled when it comes to coffee. I always buy whole bean, from a local Kansas City company, The Roasterie. It is the best coffee I have ever tasted! I have only purchased whole bean for home, as pre-ground seems like it looses flavour rapidly. I can't abide tinned coffee such as Maxwell or Folgers. It tastes flat, somehow, and terribly processed. No contest...whole bean, all the time. I have a Cuisinart grinder and use either a french press or a drip machine. Yummm. Loves me some good joe!
 
Yes, I grind. Nothing too exotic, Folger's Lively Colombian. It's the best combination of taste and economy I can find.
 
Every day except when I use my favorite brand of latin coffee which comes already ground.
 
I insist on coffee that's both freshly ground and freshly brewed.

For the last few years, this retro burr grinder is my morning savior.

I grind my own and don't have a proper grinder but rather a blade type outfit. I guess it's actually a chopper.

It does an okay job and if the noise bothers you, grind some the night before - they'll stay pretty fresh if you keep them covered.

Actually,a burr type grinder with hand crank would make very little noise.

I prefer dark roast Arabica beans but will drink just about anything.
 
^ If my grinder ever up and dies, heaven forbid, I will get a hand crank model.

I've seen some handsome ones, they cost less than an electric variety, and how green is it to use human power?

I love the Roasterie! Get to their coffee house once a month and buy the good stuff in between.
 
i grind starbucks french roast daily. i dont have the best coffee maker in the world, it's a cuisinart drip thang, but i think the fresh ground coffee makes a difference....
 
I recently got a Cuisinart burr grinder. I honestly can't say I have noticed a huge improvement in coffee taste over buying preground coffee. And it definitely is not any cheaper, in fact I think it is more expensive buying whole beans. But, it does have a hint of a fresher taste, so I do it.

And beware of buying any "blend" beans. It will likely contain very few premium beans blended with mostly cheap, inferior beans.

Like you, Indonesian coffees are my favorites.

I've been thinking of buying green beans and roasting my own. Next step, I guess.

if you do decide to roast your own, be sure that you TURN OFF the smoke detectors and start fans and open windows as it will fill your place with smoke
(also you should roast about 24-36 hours ahead of grinding to allow the oils to re-asorb)
