I don't think guys like me, (i'm mid 50's) have a "more Liberal" view of the age gap, for me, it's more a personal preference.

Back in the day, it really didn't matter (to me) what a guys age was and also weather or not he was my type, Sex was sex and it was all about getting off, that was the priority. But now it's all about quality and not quantity. I turn down a lot of offers from guys around my age (I'm in my mid 50's) for multiple reasons, but younger guys will always get my attention.

I think the ideal is within about 7 years of my own age, but I've dated 10+ older and 20 younger (he could still buy his own beer!) without complaint.
