What? Me? Really?
I had forgotten that convention.
Although we children never used it, my maternal grandmother did indeed call her mother-in-law "Mother Sanders" as a formality. She never once called her by her given name. It seemed a holdover from an earlier time, and was a sign of respect and submission of a daughter-in-law. (I changed the actual reference in compliance with JUB's rule forbidding real names on here.)
