I am asking because of the appetizers thread. It surprised me so many mentioned it. Almost everyone I know does not like it.

I love it...When I go to the wharf in Santa Cruz or Monterey I get it freshly steamed/marinated in vinegar with spices and I like the tentacles the best. I get a couple pounds of it. Sometimes I go to the wharf specifically just to buy some and then leave.

If they are fried it has to be lightly breaded...and I don't like the steaks too much unless they are served in an interesting manner...I like the tentacles the best. If there is too much breading I have to pass.

I wouldn't try calamari for years but this one guy who I really liked alot who would bring me stuff to eat when I was working...he had a catering company and owned a Mexican Restaurant...he brought me calamari once and I tried to refuse but he wouldn't have it and he made me close my eyes and open my mouth while he fed me LOL...and he did a good job...I loved it.

Fried calamari, yes, and only when WELL PREPARED. Which makes it a rarity among food, as I detest the taste of seafood in general.

Only sometimes. There is an awkward aftertaste (for me) when its' not well-prepared or perhaps prepared in a certain way.

I like it a lot too if it's prepared right. Otherwise it's like eating spicy rubber bands.

I love calamari!
When I was a kid though, my mom gave me some and said "Here, have an onion ring". I immediately spit it out because I wasn't expecting it to taste like that... Eventually I grew to like calamari though.

It's been years since I've seen calamari shaped like an onion ring though.

Love it. Any which way.

I have only had it two different ways. Fried and baked with some kind of cheese on it. Both were pretty good.

I'd be happy in northern Spain eating some chipirones en su tinta.
