I think everyone hates the sound of their own voice. Don't worry, everyone's voice sounds different when they hear it played back to them. That's why I don't go near voice recorders. :D

@Ashy, it's the people who think their voice was sent down by angels who are the real douchebags!
 
I hate the sound of my voice as well. Like you, when hearing myself talk, I sound normal, but when I'm listening to a recording of myself... I notice that I have that slight "gay" voice.

It's more femininity.

While ordering fast food through the drive-thru, I get called madam just about all the time.

Over the phone, people confuse me as being female. I get called madam almost 90% of the time, and I'm reluctant to correct them.

In fact, my car insurance agent wouldn't speak to me because she thought I wasn't me. #-o She thought I was a lady, and my policy stated I was a male. #-o

I'm sure your voice is one of the many things people like about you. Don't sweat it.

If it's really hindering your day-to-day life, maybe look for voice coaching classes or there are a number of voice coaching books out there that give you tips.
 
My voice is often nasally,kind of high pitched and my Jersey inflections come all too often in the wrong places,especially when I get excitable.#-o

Other than that,my voice can make one melt like buttah!;)
 
I like my voice when I hear it while speaking.

I dislike my voice when I heard it from a recording because it sounds much gayer to me.

Ohhhh well.
 
I can't tell, I'm just kind of insecure in general, so whenever I see pictures/voices of me...I get all uncomfortable.
 
I was just thinking about this subject (voices) but I see its already been posted.... I want my voice to be deeper!
 
When I was younger and I heard my voice for the first time, I did not like it. Eventually, I became used to it; as a matter of fact, I love my voice now.

that's why "sweating like a pig" is sooo wrong.

I feel EXACTLY like Piggy - get called ma'm on the phone a lot - especially when I'm excited - and my voice goes even higher.. I've also been told I can sound like Garfield without really trying..
When i have a cold tho - i can be Elmer Fudd's double.

I notice EVERY man's voice - the accent subtlties, the tone - the "way" they talk - OMG - when it's 'hot" it's smoking hot ! My old best friend from Michigan had the most awesome voice.... I used to listen to a DJ on the radio - whos voice could just make me hard then - when i finally got to meet him -- i was i shock -
short, chubby ASIAN -- nothing like I imagined.. talk about disappointment -
 
No, I don't like my voice when I hear it recorded! At a family party recently we all watched the just-now-recorded video of us all, and I was appalled at how, well, faggy I sounded. It's not how I hear myself when I speak. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ashamed of being gay or anything but I'm all about men and I don't want to sound feminine.

OMG - now i'm gonna get mail from short chubby asians - no - it's not like that - it's just that this particular guy "sounded" completely like someone else -so i was truly in shock to learn that he wasn't the person i IMAGINED that came with that voice. He was still a really nice guy --!!

I am not a huge fan of my voice, either, but at least I don't have to listen to it. HA! It sounds fine to me. I do get mistaken for a woman on the phone a lot. In fact, it happened earlier today. It used to bother me a lot, but not so much now.
 
I like my voice. I have been made fun of for it but it's alright.

yep me too. i'm right there with you. although i've never had like a credit card or insurance company refuse to talk to me. i do get the madam or mam thing at the drive up all the freaking time and it pisses me off every time.

Quanchi i also was in speech therapy from like kindergarten until sophomore in high school.
 
One of the things I've learned about myself, thanks to numerous different experiences, is the level of control I have over my voice.

I can make it lower, and sound natural, if I feel like I should...And I do a few accents pretty decently.

However, I still don't like listening to a recording of myself...Mainly because I do have some speech problems that keep me from pronouncing a few words here and there and that can be a little awkward to listen to.
