  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you list your ethnicity?

From My Father Side

1. German From Granny

2. Scot From Gandpappy

3 Irish From Grandpappy

4 English From Grandpappy

From My Mother Side

Norweign (Grandpa Born in Sandes, Norway)
Swedish (Grandma's Father born in Sweden that would be my Great-Grandpa)

I just tell people that I am American!

I think that if you know very much about America, you realize that being an American, we are truly ONE giant melting pot of ethnicities, whereby we mix with any/all kinds of peoples and it gets confusing trying to list ALL the different "colors" we are, so just saying American gives you a pretty good insight into who I am...

Some people are just too hung-up on what their blood line is and just cause total disruption when they fuss and fight about the color of their skins....

People, give it a rest, for there's things much more important than fighting over genes and chromosomes!!!(*8*)(*8*):kiss:

No offence intended to your point of view, but I think it's also nice to be proud of where you came from. There is nothing wrong with that. I am proud to say that I am half Ukrainian and half German, and that I was born and raised in Canada.

My Ukrainian side left the old country (well there was no Ukraine at the time... Ukraine was split between occupying countries) to be free in Canada, since back then practicing anything involving Ukrainian traditions (music, language, culture) was frowned upon, so why should we give up our culture now that we are free to practice it.

I much prefer the "breadbasket" approach that we tend to have over the "melting pot". Unity through the celebration/acceptance of our differences.

I would only say I'm Canadian if I was in an international situation. It's obvious to people here that I am a Canadian person, but a large part of my identity lies in my ancestral culture, so to ignore that would be wrong.

Italian through both my mother and father's lines(Southern Italian,Naples area)....though like many southern Italians,I have a Greek-influenced surname due to the Greek presence in parts of southern Italy long ago.

Mom: Brown hair and blue eyes

Dad: Black hair and brown eyes

Me:Brown hair (before I shaved it all off) and blue eyes

younger brother: Brown hair and blue eyes

My answer is White/Caucasian American. I'm so white I could glow in the dark.

As for my bloodlines/heritage?

French, Italian, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, British and possibly Native American...but I can't find proof of that so I don't claim it. But all the others I have traced for sure.

In my point of view, there is nothing wrong with telling others where you come from and be proud of who you are.

It is just sometimes there are some that try their best to dig into their family history to list all the ethnicity they can find. There is nothing wrong with finding your roots, listing the majorities in you is a great thing to be proud of.

I just feel it is unecessary to dig back into even further like great-great grandparents and ancestors and list them when asked.

Off topic-

I feel that we must have all came from the same place somehow when human first start inhabiting the earth and we're all just the same.
