  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you live in a university town?

No, but there are several colleges in nearby small cities. When I go there, I'm always concerned I'm going to wreck my car while being distracted looking at all the hot college students. I about did it today when I went to the liquor store! I just can't keep my eyes or mind on the road with stuff like that strutting around.

Lol, heck no.

We just have a community college here with a couple thousand students. It has been expanding quite a bit though the last 6 years or so.

Macomb IL is definitely a college town...more than half of its listed population of 20,000 is students. I think enrollment is around 12,000 at Western Illinois University.

I still don't consider it the true archetypical college town like Athens GA, Ann Arbor, Madison, Davis CA, Oxford MS, Lawrence KS, Corvallis, the near north side of Austin TX or Columbus OH, and (it seems) most of Massachusetts. Our downtown businesses, etc. don't hint that much that it's a university town, and there's no real "student shopping area" or such.

I'm not even aware of any kind of gay hangout here, even one night a week or something.

I live in a city with a small university but it does not add any culture to the city because it is a Christian university. I will say that when soulforce did their first tour to christian colleges that they were the first christian college to welcome them.

^This.

I'll tell y'all this, though. I went to Austin, TX on a family vacation, and it's a nice place. San Marcos, just south of Austin, is also a nice city.

Yes, yes I do.
The University of Alberta has approx. 36K students.
Grant MacEwan University enrols about 38K students.
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with 48K students.
NorQuest College has 11K students.
Also, Concordia University College, and King's University College, too.

I live in the neighbourhood of MacEwan, and there is not one vacant apartment to be found here.
