When I moved house a few years ago, I was pretty good at getting rid of what I no longer needed. My current home is reasonably tidy and uncluttered.

I am in the process of downsizing and it is scary the stuff I have basically hoarded since the 80's. None of which I have even looked at in the last 15 years

Yes, I have far too many tools. I rent a storage space for my lawn equipment but I still have 45 years worth of tools used in machining.

But not to the level of the so-called hoarders you sometimes see on TV..

If you move every so often you can use this to your advantage. Moved here in 2018 after 9 years in the previous home. Being retired I had the luxury of time which is what you need to do the necessary thinning. If we had participated in the neighbourhood garage sale last summer we might have had 3 items. Sold a few things, donated a lot and threw out the junk before the move.

Yes and no - I have alot of collections but no clutter or chaos

I have 5 generations of accumulated stuff and two places packed full of furniture, papers, books and other things that my heirs will have neither the room or the interest in hanging onto.

I am holding out hope that one of my three grand-nephews will end up being either a flamboyant homosexual with a passion for art and literature or a compulsive hoarder because otherwise, no one seems to want anything.
