My partner and I own a house which we love, beautiful and well-located. We paid off the mortgage a few months ago fifteen years early, presuming that we will save more in interest than we would have saved in tax deductions. In any case, our only expenses now are for maintenance and landscape (which are surprisingly large) and property taxes. I'm up for finding another house in another place, city or country, but my partner doesn't want the added responsiblity and cost, and would rather spend time in good hotels. Practically speaking, I'm sure he's right about this one, but I'm emotionally drawn to having another place, however financially foolish.
