  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you really really like your job ?

i absolutely, positively HATE my job.

i'm looking for a new gig as we speak.

Yes, I love my job.

Unfortunately, the recession/depression and inflation have eroded my

early retirement stipend...I may have to go work the corners again,

strictly as an instructor/supervisor of course.

I'd throw dinner parties and barbecues and churn ice cream and smoke sausages for free, sure.

But do my job for free? No way.

I love my job, but I kinda like having food, clothing, and shelter.

Well, considering that I often do work while I'm formally on vacation ...

I'd have to say the answer is ...

... that I'm certifiably insane. :D

I used to love the job with lots of passion. Now with the increasing micromanagement from my supervisor, I am now considering a career change, which would eventually involve relocation... again.

My job is ok i like the people but the Management is very poor

No i wouldn't do it for free

I love my job...for many reasons...including the fact that I am paid very well. So no way I'd do it for free.

I love my job. And since it is retirement I technically am doing it for free. But it does pay quite well.

I love my job.

But, for free, probably not.

There have been times, with my present job and many others, when I said to myself "I should be paying them".

Basically, I like work and working.....

i work in retail, so you can guess what my answer is. but its all i can find for the moment so i gotta live with it.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Molotov. ..| (*8*)

What a lot of people who have worked a long time (5 to 10 years or more) in storefront retail (whether it be a convenience store, Walmart, Costo, Target, etc.) will tell you is that we don't do it for the money. Because if we did it for the money, nobody would be shopping at stores, because they would have no employees to run them.

Storefront retail is the poorest paid profession out there, and I'm saying this having spent 8 and a half years in it. Within that 8 & 1/2 years, I also have a year and a half of member of management experience. And yet, even with those qualifications, I'm still making minimum wage. In any other profession, while those credentials would probably not get you ultra-top-whack pay, they would probably at least get you really really good medium-whack pay. I make minimum wage.

It's like I told a co-worker before I left work earlier tonight: that's why they call it "retail", because you often get the tail end of dealing with the general public, and all the crap that goes with it!

The job that I have now, as a convenience store clerk, I do generally like it. On a zero to 10 scale, I'd rate it at an 8.5 or 9. Only thing is having to deal with the grouchy SOBs :grrr: and the occasional complete idiots who happen to wander in. "How much are the drinks?" All sizes, $0.88 cents, just light the glowing neon sign says over the soda fountain. I'm not making that up, either. ](*,)

V V Again, I point to my signature, below.

when i was in my 40's i loved it. gave me a lot of satisfaction. then i started my own business and it's been down hill since

I don't really really like it but I like it enough. There is no place I can think of where you can have my kind of retail job and be a contract employee.

Its the reason so many people stay at the company because it has so many more benefits than other retailers. We have so many people that work there for life or for many many years, so imagine how hard it is to get fired or want to quit. The people I work with have an average of about 15 years with the company, and I've only been there 3 years, which is a lot longer than I've been with any other company.

The only other place that I can think of that is unionized is Macy's and Bloomingdales, but they sell primarily clothing.

No, I don't really really like I job. I don't even think I like my job. I am indifferent to it, accept that I do it because it pays well and allows me to pursue my passions.

I do love my job, but no, I wouldn't do it for free.

I do love my job, but I don't get paid enough and everybody knows it. My boss would love to give me a raise, but there's no money in the budget to put more into payroll. She kind of has it worse being paid 80% and officially taking Wednesdays off even though she still comes in for a couple hours, and she comes in on weekends.

I make enough to get by, but there's no way I could do it for free.

I wish I could be as lucky as my boss, though: marry a tall gorgeous surfer who makes enough money to have a house by the beach so I can do what I love without worrying about the bills.... [sigh]... a boy can dream, can't he?
