  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you remember the first websites you visited when you first went on the internet?

Hum I was on AOL when I first discovered the internet. I actually thought AOL was the internet for awhile. I remember going to a place called PersianKitty.com which was a straight porn site with a bunch of links.

I was an early early computer guy. Anyone remember the Radio Shack TRS-80 line of personal computers? The monitors had white on black text. No such thing as pictures. Then "green" screens came out (green text on black) and I thought I was so advanced when I got a green screen.

Back to the question. AOL (also CompuServ) were the big names in online services between computers. For me AOL would have been where I would have surfed to some website hosted on AOL.

I was thinking at AOL type of online service came before privately owned Bulletin Board System (BBS) that you would call a phone number (most likely long distance phone charge) and connect to their BBS mostly to exchange email or special interest forums text forums.

Prodigy was a big thing when the webs started. It was bulletin board based like JUB. You could talk to people all over the world. Also as others have mentioned linkmeallover was JUBs Momma so to speak…..we have Vannie now.

I do. My first comptuer experiences were with TRS-80 computers. My elementary school got a couple of Color Computers not long before I went to junior high. And the junior high had a computer lab with TRS-80 Model 3 (which were ones with a black and white screen). They also still had a couple of earlier TRS-80 models (Model 1? maybe?) lying around the school.

For me it wasn't internet where I started, but local BBS'es (can't remember where now but you could get lists of them somewhere... maybe the library? or some local computer magazine?)
All text based too in the beginning, then at some point there were a couple that did a semi-graphical interface.

It was so long ago it wasn't a website - it was usenet.
And that would be my first 'internet' as well.
(the group alt.sex.stories.gay was my first finding anything 'gay' online. LOL so many hours wasted with that)

the REAL question ought to be. . .which BBS's do you remember visiting :rotflmao:
I don't remember ... but if I dug around enough in some of my old stuff I could find names for atleast a few of them. lol

First websites i visited on a regular basis: I have no idea, but likely something related music, computers, thunderstorms, or electricity/electronics...
And yep I used NetScape (but never had to pay for it...it was free) or sometimes NCSA Mosaic. Internet Explorer pretty much sucked from day one! LOL
