Does anyone else remember when JUB had a chat function? You could click a button at the top of the page and chat with people.

Or when there were these little indicators of emotion where your username and picture are where you could select your emotion and it would show it in a bar with a color representing the emotion and a little smiley of it?

These functions disappeared a few months after I got here so they're not a big part of my memory, but I think of them every so often and it makes it seem so long ago.

I just wanted to confirm if these are real memories, and to open up a discussion on JUB of yore.

So what are the things you guys remember about JUB that are gone or have changed?
 
2008 I never was around when they decided to close the chat room, but I was around when it first started getting interesting like the video and voice chat.

I'm actually writing a blog entry about my experience from joining in 2004 to now. Mostly ranting but yeah...
 
I remember it..and all the drama that went along with and the occasional weirdos
 
Are the caterpillars what I'm thinking of where you could change it to fit your emotion?

I think it's sad how there was once a thriving contingent of women posting on here, but now I never see any.
 
Yep, "my mood today" and post icons - I miss them both. There used to be a lot more questions on your profile. I miss that too. Plus a lot of people.

No. The caterpillars were before even that. There were red ones and green ones, and some were longer than others.

I think it was too expensive for them to maintain or something like that.

I never went into the Chat, but, from my understanding, there were too many program conflicts to make it practical. If I recall correctly, there were 2 different attempts to get a chat up and running properly. Finally they just gave up.

I was a member a few years back when JUB had a chat function, met some fantastic people there. It was always 60-40 though...

60% guys on webcams beating their meat
40% guys on there for a genuine chat, some very nice people that I was extremely glad to meet from across the globe.

I do miss the chat but its not the end of the earth.

Edit: And from memory JUB was using userplane, which with webcam and audio abilities ISN'T the cheapest option but it works decently well.

Yeah they did, and I enjoyed the voice chat and video chat. Remember having my first conversation with some JUB members through voice chat and hearing Pianist playing his music. Those were the days.
 
The Chat was my first introduction to JUB --
Solitude, Biggie, Peterboroboy, Pocono, PK, Kenny, so many others, then later HotHunk, Bobinri, RenissanceBoy,Jav, Starford, - many more,

it was a fun place, then I guess it became an 'expense". Seth complained bout it messing up the numbers in the "number of members viewing" each of the forums. and some other stuff --
then they went to another format - it worked okay - but then it left too - and yet a third one ran for a short while before the final shot was put in the Chat's head. There were complaints that it didn't get used -- yet it was never promoted through the other pages/forums. Then it couldn't be justified expense wise due to the small number of users.
and so it goes. and there it went..

some members planned to meet up at another site with a chat - but it never really amounted to much . those that were "friends" stayed in touch on YahooIM or MSN - others vanished into the crowd.

Ding dong the chat is dead
If all wishes were horses, all beggars would ride. ..........
 
I SO miss the chat area. I found it at just about the same week they deleted it. I did not have a webcam then as I do now. It must have been awesome to chat in real time with fellow JUBbers about things being said in the threads.




I also miss the free pizzas that were delivered to all JUBbers on Friday nites. As soon as you logged on, you got a hot pizza delivered to your door about a half hour later. You old time members remember that, don't you?

Putting a chat room on a forum is a good way to kill it. I'm glad the chat feature is gone and I hope it doesn't come back.
 
Wow. I didn't know the chat feature meant so much to so many people. I guess I can see how that would help people get to know each other more easily. I kind of wish I hadn't missed it now.

This is a ridiculous statement. The chat was a very alive and vibrant part of this forum for some time. I was a lurker from the days when it converted from linkmeallover.ca to justusboys, and it was the chat that really turned me into a nonlurker. There was a lot of great interaction there, and many who had a strong presence in chat also participated in the forums.

I could never understand why all the profile information was cut back.

Seemed more like a hook up or "match" site when you could find out so much about a member.
