I do. I tend to not wake up all the time like I usually do so I get one nice long sleep.

I was just thinking about fifteen minutes ago that I wish we had a balcony as I'd like to sit on it with a hot mug o' tea when it's raining out at night. I usually have my window open to some degree or other through the day and night and yeah, the sound of a steady rain is quite soothing.

My favorite place in the world was being in bed with my husband, our arms wraped around each other and under the covers, with a gentle steady rain outside. I don't think I ever felt as safe and as happy as I was during that time. I still dream about those times.

I'm glad you made this thread, Thynight.

I've been wanting to tell JUBbers about this free software that plays customizable rain/storms and other relaxing sounds like campfires, ocean, jungle, birds, etc.

It's called Atmosphere Lite. It's a free version so you'll get a 'splash screen' asking if you want to 'purchase' the full version each time you start it up, but you can just click on the 'continue' button and move on.

The free version is still very customizable with light rain and heavy rain, 6 adjustable 'thunder' settings, and a lot more. Check it out.

And there's a built-in timer to either shut down the program or set an alarm to wake you up.

You can get it for free here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/atmoslite.html

I seem to do everything better during an all-hell-breaks-loose thunderstorm. I sleep better during severe weather, and when I am up, I generally focus better, oddly enough...

No way. The sound of the water hitting the ground slightly annoys me. When it's raining heavily I have to sleep with the TV or a fan on. During a thunderstorm I either sleep before it starts or I stay awake until it's over.

Once felt that the sound of rain was marvelously therapeutic. As my insanity has gotten worse, now I worry about the 100 leaks I can't locate in a 200-year old house with endless nooks and crannies. And when I wake up during a thunderstorm, I think about how terrifying it must be, for the dog that some human arsehole has chained or penned up, in a backyard somewhere. Or the other homeless critters seeking shelter anywhere they can find it. Someone admonished me once, saying, "don't worry about things you can't change" .... but, it's just a mantra that doesn't quite work for me. I totally understand how someone finds joy in rainfall.
"Millions, long for eternal life, who do not know what to do with themselves on a rainy Sunday" (unknown)

when i lived in the mid-west , yes..it was a common occurance so it soothing and relaxing. out here in the desert i have come to dread it , it becomes a media event of epic proportions, then piddles a little water and accident central because people are too stupid to remember that a little rain oils the roads and a lot of rain washes them..so they go flying around banging things , kind of like the first snow ..hehe

Doesn't make much of an impact unless it gets really humid and hot before or after... then it's unbearable.

Yes I do! I even slightly open the window just to hear it, it makes me sleep like a baby :)

To rain absolutely and storms would have formerly been a big yes, but my current love of my life, Mya, a Siberian husky will not let me sleep during a storm. She freaks out and basically sits on my chest shivering in fear the entire time. It really sucks, cause like I said, I would normally fall fast asleep if not for her. But, if not for her I would not be alive today. She helped me through the deaths of my stepdad and mom within six months of each other in 2010. So a few sleepless nights are worth having her with me.

Yes,
there is a phone app with rain, storm, thunder, wind, wave, sea, birds ... etc sound effects to make you sleep better. Its called Relax Melody and its free

Sorry to double post! I used to have this amazing cd of thunderstorms that I slept to every night when I lived in Seattle. Yes, Seattle where it "rains all the time" but apparently that amount of rain was not enough so I had this awesome cd to help me sleep. It lasted about three years and then gave up the ghost. I have tried other cds and sound machines, but nothing has ever worked as well as that cd did.

have you tried the phone app?
It is great with a timer too.

I have not, this is the first I have heard of it. I am not really tech savvy, so I am not even sure how to get that on my dinosaur of a phone. Thanks for the info though!
