Memory lane. I was in grad school. Attended a work shop on creative writing. We all sat in a circle including the speaker. She introduced herself and started talking about... then all of a sudden she stopped and turned to me. She asked me if she did something wrong? What? She said I looked angry and just staring at her.

Apparently, I had RBF (resting bitch face).

Since you asked, I could so see you having RBF. You seem like the type that hugs the wall at a party, arms folded across your chest, rolling your eyes every 4 seconds.

Something like that happened to me earlier this week. It was my Writers' Group on Zoom, and they were taking time out to discuss the group's rules and procedures, and whether they need to be revised. First, let me tell you that this sort of thing isn't my forte, I'd rather spend my time on more interesting and exciting things. But I can see the point of doing this, making sure that everyone respects the other writers and their work. I've heard horror stories about groups where people are rude, dismissive of others' work, and minimize their contributions. I know I would not participate in a group like that.

But during the meeting this week, the woman talking stopped and told me that she saw me rolling my eyes. I was shocked, not realizing I was doing that, if in fact I was. Actually I thought I was focusing pretty well on the discussion, considering the topic was rules and procedures. I probably stifled a yawn or two, but I tend to do that a lot when other people are talking, anyway, even if I'm interested in what is being said.

My doctor would come into the room and prompt me to smile. I didnt appreciate that and he had a family emergency in Brussels, so Im glad he cant prompt me to 'smile'

I used to have a manager with a RBF and i would avoid her because she looked down right scary and tough. She ended up being the nicest lady ever and had a very good sense of humor.
