  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do You Support the WGA Strike?

Absolutely not. I do not support unions nor do I support strikes in any way shape or form.

I have never been a fan of strike action but they have the right to strike.

However, there are other alternatives to strike action.

The Union have obviously got this list of demands that to the studios is an outlandish list of demands so they wont negotiate with the union and that is their right. On the other side of the coin the union should at least come up with some reasonable demands that they know will be mutually beneficial to their members.

As far as I can tell there does not appear to be any negotiations taking place.

My suggestion would be to allow the writers to go back to work and earn a living then take the union organisers and studio exs and LOCK them in a room with bread and water and dont let them out until they have reached a decision.

The union would not even give a waiver to the Golden Globes and were going to picket so what happnes...Golden Globes cancelled...and that effects a lot of people...so this strike has now caused other people to lose income...actors, camerapeople, ushers, drivers etc.

So, come one WGA organisers get off your butts and let the writers go back to work and you as organisers get to negotiating properly with the producers and then everyone will be happy.

The Golden Globes show has been cancelled. The celebrities said they wouldn't show.

Will they have to do the same for the Oscars?

I was wondering that myself last night when the news broke about the Globes ceremony being canceled.

I suspect the Oscars will go ahead. Call me a cynic, but I can't quite see everyone backing out of that - it's too big an honour to get one. If I were up for an Oscar - and let's face it, for many nominees it is a once-off thing - I'd want to be there when it was awarded.

Writers are contracted to do a job and receive a contracted payment for this. They KNOW that their work is being sold to more and more countries so they really need to re-negotiate their contracts.

That's what I was getting at - well put.

No. Because they're not worth more money. They're just a bunch of greedy people who are holding the entertainment business hostage. Fire them all. I don't feel like I'm missing anything on tv because most what was being written by these "talented" writers was crap, anyway. This is a good opportunity for producers to hire fresh, new talent who are capable of thinking outside the box.
