As I said, it's like the oil war going on right now between Saudi Arabia and the USA: the USA knows he can't win an oil price, but they don't mind getting screwed a little as long as they get something out of it, even if it's not directly against the Saudis.
North Korea or any other country can choose to be "flattened" if at least that buggers the system on which America and the whole Western world lies: you know, an act of heroic sacrifice doesn't always derive from the right and from good moral principles, hence terrorist suicides... there we are dealing with mental convictions, not material safety, which was what Al pointed in his first post.

China started to regret the support given to a monster, like the USA have done with so many Asian bastards in the past... remember Saddam Hussein, for example.

And you are willing to destabilize the foundations of the economic system on which you are resting if that screws your rival more (or at least so you think) than yourself.

Fuck no. Let them go to war over a movie, so we can stop talking about the angry potato for good.

If they so much as used a nuclear weapon, within 5 minutes North Korea would be wiped off the face of the earth by China. What is sad is that the people are beyond brain washed and scared to death!

WWI would have not happened the way we know, with the "Balkan problem" as the trigger, but it's absurd to believe that the nations involved in it wouldn't have their interests clash in any other point of their global empires... you science majors are even so short-sighted for whatever is not found among the answers already given to you...

I'm a law major, and the assassination just so happened to be the match light.

and the assassination just so happened to be the match light.

Exactly: it was not the only component that could ever have ignited WWI, as you not only implied, but stated by saying that, without the assassination and later direct implication of Russia, there would have never been A WWI.

I'm a law major

Oh, then it's even worse  I had assumed too much given all your science-themed posts but, if you compound that sort of geekiness with a major in the science of evil, then your capacity for clear thinking may be seriously challenged

Wait. Let's backup. When did North Korea become this threat to us?

I try not to follow the news and keep my media exposure to a minimum. So, my general impression so far is that we've been picking on the little guy.

I always thought the obsession was pretty one-sided to begin with. For whatever reason: we are too chicken to take on Russia and China or we need a easy comfort of a cuddly, familiar goodguy - badcommie scenario.

My take so far has been that North Korean obsession is only with South Korea. It's not complicated.

^Try 2008 when NK was threatening to launch missiles... and then proceeded to do just that.

We haven't been picking on the regime - they've actually been flexing muscle. But, they didn't fall under the umbrella of "terrorists", so they got a pass.

Apparently though, we're kowtowing to CyBER hackers now, since 5 major chains won't be showing The Interview.

Yeah not been following it a lot as I said. But what made the little guy get all so aggressive to take on the world? I thought we did something (as we are won't to do) to set them off. What threat did they see to their regime?

We made a funny movie about their leader(well, I assume it's funny because I like Seth Rogen). Apparently, that's enough to hack Sony and threaten us with war and make AMC and Regal Cinemas act like pussies.

(side note - wont. not won't. sorry, pet peeve)

Not a prob. Auto erect ... And I'll let THAT autocorrect stand ;) and in don't case I don't bother correcting minor typos.

I like Seth Rogen too but he looks better with extra pounds, methinks. Before that wasn't it North Koreans as villains in a Bond movie and a John Milius film? We are running out of safe villains.

I guess we can just say it's all a joke, a Hollywood thing. I bet they are having a good laugh over the sony hack.

Guess none of this matters - Sony decided to cancel the release.

And, to add to this, a Steve Carell movie, 'Pyongyang', just got the ax.

Guess we know who runs Hollywood this week.
