I can see more rapist, pedophiles and other crazies running free if it happens.

A nice improvement of the justice system can be envisioned, though: if a transporter functions by turning someone into a signal packet, holding someone for trial could be done by turning them into the packet and storing it. For those found innocent, they wouldn't have been subjected to the injustice of aging in confinement, because aging doesn't take place while you're just a packet of data.

And if we got good with biology, we could get the biolfilters mentioned in a number of Next Generation episodes, circuits that identify and don't pass along disease. For that matter, poisons could be removed as well.

And if we got really good, maybe the impulse that drives pedophiles could be filtered out -- or perhaps redirected, so that the guy who liked diddling little girls comes out loving to repair kitchen utensils.
Oops -- we have replicators by that point, so no need for kitchen utensils.
