Do you think all migrants, no migrants or some migrants should be vetted before entering the USA?

So, if if you don't think at least 50,000 migrants a month, illegally crossing the southern border into America, for God knows how many years ISN'T an emergency, well, good luck to you. You no longer have a country.
Do we know how many are being deported per month? If it exceeds that rate then no, it's literally not an emergency.

That number may seem big but when you compare the total population of the US it's really not that big. It's not even 1% in a year.

It IS concerning but it's not an emergency.

You're correct. No emergency.

There is a problem, though. We can't send anyone to a country unless they are willing to accept them. While we're waiting for confirmation that they will accept the person, we have to house them, feed them and clothe them. If these were people from Mexico, we could just send them back across the border. The problem is that these are people from Central America and it's much more difficult to get them back home. If they ask for asylum, they are entitled to a hearing before they're deported.

Oh, worth mentioning... Trump hasn't hired the diplomats in the State department who handle these things. His Administration just submitted a budget to cut funding to the State Department and USAID.

To answer your question about deportations, ICE has a snazzy new website in which they brag about the deportations. The Obama Administration set records for deportations and they focused on criminal aliens who had committed serious crimes- after being sentenced and serving prison terms if appropriate, they were deported. The Trump Administration deported 158,581 aliens in 2018 and claims that 90% of these aliens had criminal records but... their definition of "criminal records" is much more expansive and not limited to serious crimes.

Neither Administration disclosed the cost but I've heard that it's about $10,000 per immigrant so if we take the number that the Trump Administration deported in 2018, the cost would be about $1,585,810,000 ($1.6 trillion dollars).

To clarify, 50,000 a month are being caught. How many more are NOT being caught?

I agree that precision in speech helps us to clearly communication, but you used the word "visitor" to describe your sister from Brazil, not me. A visitor is neither a migrant nor an immigrant, just merely a visitor. I understand the issue being discussed just fine, thank you. The masses who will be breaking down your southern door are also not migrants, they are immigrants who must follow America's immigration laws. Obama made a massive error in judgement by saying not to inforce immigration laws. MASSIVE! It amounts to treason and he should be prosecuted for it. Now everyone thinks that American immigration laws don't apply to them. Good luck with that.

Obama was tagged as 'Deporter in Chief' for the number of illegal immigrants he deported during his time in office.

As usual, you don't care about the facts. Only the fringe right, racist rhetoric.

Not to mention the fact that the rules changed during his administration. Deportations which were never counted before were suddenly being counted. The first part of Obama's administration fell under the rules of the old pattern applied to all other presidents before him. The second part falls under the rules of the new pattern. So far, Trump is the only other president who can be compared to Obama.

This has been mentioned and discussed many times before in this forum since this topic was brought up.

Whoa! Now you're quoting me on things I never said. You created that quote.

So then why are heads exploding now because Trump wants to in force said rules.

We don't know, it could be next to nothing. Being efficient enough to catch that many people is impressive; why wouldn't you believe they're catching the majority?

It didn't make the news often but the Obama Administration's deportation policies and the incarceration of entire immigrant families cost him Hispanic support.

This was, of course, before the Trump Administration's policy of kidnapping children from these families and losing them in the bureaucracy.

It wasn't your quote.

There is no implication it was.

It was a label slapped on him by those who were unhappy with the number of people seized and ejected from the US.

Because TrumpCo. has made it seem like a huge issue. Like it never happened before. And all of his low information base, like you, just lap it up.

And there were no prison camps for kids.

Or thousands of lost children.

Or a program for kicking out the children who were born in the US.

But there was lots of criticism during his term about the casual cruelty.

State Department says US cutting off aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras [CNN]
The United States is cutting off aid to the Northern Triangle, otherwise known as the Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, the State Department told CNN Saturday, one day after President Donald Trump said they had "set up" migrant caravans for entry into the United States.

"We were paying them tremendous amounts of money. And we're not paying them anymore. Because they haven't done a thing for us. They set up these caravans," Trump said Friday.
....
On Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen signed what she called a "first of its kind" regional compact agreement with the Northern Triangle countries aimed at preventing irregular migration, combating criminal organizations and ultimately helping with US border security.

And meanwhile, in the land of Alternative News:
Fox News host apologizes for ‘3 Mexican Countries’ chyron: ‘It never should have happened’
On Sunday, “Fox & Friends” quickly jumped to news of the president’s plans to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to three Central American countries over the flow of migrants to the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump has already warned of closing the border.

As [Ed] Henry talked about the president “going full-court press on Mexico” and co-host Pete Hegseth spoke of “cutting payments, aid payments, to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras,” a chyron — the caption superimposed over the video — characterized it slightly differently. It referred to them as “3 Mexican countries.”

:telstra:

And now 39% of Americans think that Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador are three Mexican countries.

Wow. Does Fox have that many viewers? Well, I guess it's better than the 10% who believed in the Russian collusion delusion.

Apropos to the above off-topic posts....

Well, he has done more to benefit Americans than most other Presidents have, no?
