  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you try things you think you’ll dislike?

I have tried and will try new foods, fashion, haircuts, workout routines, sex, but rarely if I think I will not like it, but that is rare.

They eat horse shit in Fear Factor ??????!!!!!!!!!!! How gross !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok the horse shit part didn't happen on Fear Factor but the maggoty cheese part did. You get the idea. ;)

I think in one episode they tossed a dead rat into a blender and then served up the chunky puree to the contestants. I thought THAT was really going overboard...

I would usually experiment with food, except if they contain too much visible fat bits.

For media (movies, music, books, etc.), once I decide it is not for me, even if I haven't checked it out, there is little chance I would. And even if I decide to change my mind, they usually end up not for me.

For fashion, usually yes for clothes and accessories, but not (yet) for any body modification (haircut, piercings, tattoos).

Answer for sex cannot be provided due to lack of experience :(

On our local version of Fear Factor they blitzed up raw, half-fermented crocodile (alligators, in Americanese :D) meat with milk and crocodile fat and the contestants had to glug down about half a litre of it in order to progress. The stuff looked like thick pus, with chunks in it.

On topic, food-wise I'll try almost anything once provided it's not an obvious health-risk like the above probably was. If I don't like it, I will strike it off the list in all its forms - for example, seafood and I don't get on, so pretty much all of it is on my "Nope" list. That's shellfish, line fish, sushi, the lot.

Entertainment is another story. Films which look even slightly crappy are never going to pass muster, ever. Books - certain authors will never be able to right that one wrong which was a sub-par novel of theirs which I read that one time and hated.

Other things... I will go along with many things if it's a group event and we're all going down in flames together...

Most recently, a few months ago, I had miso soup (and liked it very much! - reordered it a couple days later at the same place - in Hilo). Originally I tried it a few years ago and I didn't like it at all, so it was something I didn't think I was going to like.

I used to have a major wild streak where I would do a lot of crazy shit but I think it is gone now...
What kind of crazy shit? Stuff like skydiving?

It's a #4 thank you very much. lol
Is that the poo poo platter?

Food wise (as well as "Other" wise) ... I'd rather NOT be told what it is before I've tried it. I prefer to Experience whatever it is on it's own merits, than allow my preconceptions to possibly put me "off" it, before I've even tasted/tried it. #-o

Yes! I've been pleasantly surprised at some of the things I've found to be Delicious/Enjoyable!  ..|

As with Everything, you'll Never KNOW until you've experienced "it" yourself! [-X ](*,)

I am that way as well when I try new things, which is not often.

Food items, sure. I can sample a bit and see if I like it.

Experiences, no. If it doesn't sound like something I'll enjoy, I'll just skip it. Which is why I've never ridden in a helicopter, taken cocaine, or (yes) had sex with a woman.

^ Lex

I, too, have never tried, nor will I ever try, cocaine. [-X

However, I have had sex with women (even more than one at a time), and have flown in helicopters. \:/ (!w!)

(Though I haven't tried sex in a whirly bird, nor an airplane, yet. #-o :-< )

Even though I have a "thing" about heights, I can HIGHLY recommend riding in a chopper! (o)

Very strange, this thread won't load directly from my daily email notification, but it does from here. And other threads load directly from the emails.

Yep I've also been on a chopper (the kind that FLIES, twice - but only once, as a kid, riding piggyback with a friend on the kind which has two wheels). Also done zip lines (in Colorado!), and rode on Kingda Ka...

As far as trying unusual food, the farthest I'm likely to go (fully knowing ahead of time what I'm getting, and seeing it cook) would be rat - and thinking that I'd probably like it.

No. :)

The thing is - I don't have a big fear of heights. They make me mildly nervous but unreasonably so - you might call it a healthy fear. My main reason for not doing a helicopter trip isn't fear of heights - it's just a lack of interest. I'm just not visually attuned. Sweeping vistas don't do a thing for me. You may as well take a blind guy up. :)

Here's a funny thing. My partner's father wanted to take us on a helicopter sightseeing tour in Vegas, and he was a bit snide about me declining.

"You scared?"
"A bit. But mainly just no interest."

He sort of mocked me about it as we went to his hotel room. Once there, I kept chatting about it, but he suddenly stopped. I finally noticed and looked over at him.

"Could you...step away from there?" he asked.
"...from where?"
"The window. You might fall out."

We were on the 35th floor. He was too scared to stand near the window, and he was even freaked out having ME stand near it. Whereas I didn't have any issue at all. Let's just say that ended the razzing from him. :)

I ate Indian food for the first time in my life a couple of months ago. I was convinced that I would not like it --- it was wonderful. Can't wait to go again.

It's not about the Sights, which can be Amazing, butt it's more about the FEELINGS! I'm convinced that even Blind Guys would LOVE it! (o) \:/

The last time I was in Vegas, we DID take a helicopter down into the Canyon! The vista wasn't exactly "sweeping" as much as the walls, and river, were Zooming around/under/past us! (!w!)

HA! He, and I, sound quite a bit alike! #-o  (group)

The Sears Building (now The Willis Building), in Chicago (just 90min. south of me), has "Observation Pods", with glass floors, that jut Out from the building. I haven't been UP there, yet, but I think I [STRIKE]don't[/STRIKE] want to give it a try! :help:  ..|

Or you could do BOTH AT THE SAME TIME () by going onto the semicircular overhanging glass deck on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It's nowhere near the part where most people go - the loop road that reaches it north of Flagstaff and Williams.

I think I remember you have to go through Dolan Springs to get there, which is considerably closer to LV.
