So at work a while back a co-worker of mine commented on needing to find a paper to get coupons to save money. I told her how I used to do that when I'm younger but don't need to anymore because.

Than I asked myself "What why the fuck don't I use coupons even if it's just saving a few cents. I don't get that many hours and food ain't cheap. I should use coupons again."

So last sunday I bought a paper and this time I just found a paper that someone left at my work.

It seems there are around 3 booklets of coupons. They just don't seem that great. They seem to be mostly on fast food and tv dinners. I'm trying to lay off those.

So I was wondering if anyone does use coupons and if they use paper coupons, online coupons or know of a good place to get coupons. I did find some coupons I liked though in this paper. Not too many though. Than again I suppose it all depends on where you shop. I mostly go to kroger and I have started looking at "Kroger Savings" and find that they have some good deals sometimes. Especially the manager's specials. Gotta love those.

I use them. I use them mainly for paper product(towels, tissue) and soaps and detergents. Once in awhile I find some for food items I use and stock up on that item because usually its save xxx dollars off the purchase of three or four of that item. There are a couple of on-line services that you can go to that will let you define what products you are looking for coupons for and will let you print coupons for those items when they are available for those specific items.

You can also load on-line discounts on your Kroger Shopper's card.

I love using coupons, only on stuff I use, though. Especially when the coupon gets doubled.

I don't know if they do it in your neck of the woods, but at the Kroger place here they double the coupon up to 50 cents, and give you up to a dollar on coupons 50 cents to $1.

I also shop the clearance areas. Discontinued items are sometimes up to half off.

Know when the store marks down meat and deli items, usually between 4 and 6 PM. It is still good (usually) and sometimes up to half off depending on how much they didn't sell.

Look for 'Grade B Medium' Eggs. The only thing that means is they were repacked at the store and sometimes you get the really expensive free range organic fancy schmancy eggs that normally sell for $4 a dozen for 74 cents. (!)

Wow you are right. It took me about 20 minutes or so to find the kroger that I like but I finally found it. Added my kroger card to it and did the cell fire thing. That's so cool that when I swipe my kroger card next time I'll save on those item. I like the concept. I did see a mention of doubling coupons. But I did not find the specifics to that so I'm not sure how it really works.

Do you mean clearance or "on sale" area. I don't ever recall seeing a clearance but I've seen a "on sale" area. Really. I never knew that. I know very often there are manager's specials. I love that on the mushrooms. I'll have to check next time and see if they do that.

Last time i went to kroger I had a bad experience with eggs. All the eggs were like under a dollar. Some 25 cents. But almost all of them kroger brand or other brand and they were all freaking cracked. There were barely any decent eggs. I will remember the "Grade Be Medium Eggs" though.

I actually tried something called "Yowza" the concept is cool because they scan the coupon on the phone but there aren't many retailers that are going with it and not many in my area anyways.

It would be really cool if they started doing this with stores though.

But the preloaded savings I like. Thanks Yooper.

I always check out those weekly mailers to see what's on sale before buying groceries. I'll stock up if it's a good deal and I rarely buy anything at regular price.

Those big chain stores say they have "double coupons", meaning they will double the discount, but they don't exactly bdo that anymore. They cap it at a dollar, so if you have a 75cent coupon, they'll only bump it up to a dollar off. That's better than nothing, but most coupons aren't really that great.

Some stores have "clearance" sections that are just the stuff that are past the sell-by date but not yet rotten, except the bananas are usually all blotchy and soft if they have them. This one Japanese place discounts what's left of their daily lunches a couple hours before closing. They're kept in those fridge cases so it's not like they're on the verge of spoiling.

Also, the 'clearance' sections often have discontinued merchandise, like slow selling products or a size that's been changed. Just the other day I found some 12 oz jars (kinda small) of Peanut Butter marked down to $0.45 (was $1.49) because they decided to quit selling that size. And my partner LOVES peanut butter. Expiration date is sometime next summer.

I use coupons... a bargain is a bargain... why pay more? The more money you save, you more you can spend on things you want, rather than things you need!

i keep a pocket sized day/week planner and on my days to go pick up stuff i have the coupons stapled to those days.

of course i mind the exp' dates,

come to find out with the use of coupons and in store deals combined, i spend less money of personal products at CVS than at wal-mart

i use coupons and any sales i can but i don't like the freaking "buy 3 and save $1" coupons when it's a name brand, overpriced item to start with
Give me REAL incentive. At least $1 off

Agreed. Or "50 cent off" when it' like something that is 6 dollars.

However, I have noticed kroger has had great deals on frozen raw shrimp. The normal price is like 8 dollars but there have been sales when it' like 6 dollar. That's not bad.

It also depends on HOW the sale is done.

This one hispanic food market. They had eggs on sale. Very cheap price. But the eggs were not only not refrigerated and chilled but they were sitting outside in a kart like thin with the sale sign on it. Who knows how long they've sat for. That's stuff you have to be careful with. And they weren't pasteurized eggs.

I do know that some food is still good past it's expiration date. Unfortunately not fresh foods most of the time.
