I personally hate it. I don't get the concept of having your full name and full date of birth online to not be a security threat for identity theft.

Then don't use it, and if you do, don't have your full name and date of birth public for the world to see. I sure don't, and like mitch, I don't have my address(hell, I don't even have my real city of residence), phone number, social security number, bank of use, or any of that so-called sensitive information plastered all over it. I don't post from a location, don't constantly update people on where I am(specifically), don't leave telltale "rob me, I'm not at home!" information or any of that... like anything in life on the web, if you're gonna use it, be smart.

(I knew I forgot something in the "Threads you don't want to see in 2012" thread - relentless hatred of facebook based on misinformation)

I'd rather have scabies than Facebook.

I'm not concerned about identity theft from my name and date of birth. .

It's the first step to identity theft. but like you said you have nothing to lose, except clear up the headache that comes after a problem, especially if it's someone online that gets mad at you over something. Like BD's site.

Your name and DOB can be obtained in a thousand different ways. That is not the concern.

The biggest concern is that people post every farking moment of their lives on there. That really makes it unnecessary for someone to watch you to determine your habits if they were wanting to commit a crime against you.

I have facebook but post humorous nonsense on there so you cant really see what i do day in and day out.

I use it. It really isnt a security threat if you dont have any pertinent information on there like a social security number or bank numbers etc. Including passwords and the like.

Not to mention, if you have your profile private, they will pretty much only see your name. All you really have to fill out on facebook is your name, pretty much everything else is optional.

Hate Facebook.

It is ridiculous to see adults expose stuff about themselves on this site that they would be unwilling to share in a conversation with a casual acquaintance.

And the obsessive status garbage.

Who the fuck cares? Your lives are so boring you're spending all your time on Facebook.....

Yes and I love it. Its an easy way for me to keep in contact with my friends. Facebook and forum boards are 2 different worlds. A forum board is all ready for you to play with from the get go. Facebook is a bit more work and really only works if you have friends that post, and you enjoy posting yourself.

Do you not?

There's no problem with people that don't use it. but I find people that shit on it just to be contrarian stupid. And it is so obvious when this is the case.

And so everyone who uses facebook must automatically be like this? You use the site how you want.

Your argument is like saying, I hate forums because everyone is an attention seeking troll. sure those people exist, but thats not how shit works in real life now is it?

I used to use it a lot but only keep it active now to look at photos of friends. Besides that, I could not care more about the site.

I love Facebook. It allows me to stay in touch with everyone I know and care about. Even if we don't communicate on a regular basis I know what's going on in their lives. I think I'd be lonely without it

^ But the interactions can tend to be way more interesting than any drivel that I've seen people post on FB.

By a factor of 1000.

I realize that for a lot of people it is a great thing. And I would encourage people who love it to use it in order to maintain social connections they might otherwise let slide.

Mixed feelings about Facebook. On the one hand, I get to interact with my family. On the other, my family gets to know my business.

No. I've had friends force me to make a profile on the site, but I just hated Facebook and deleted my profile after awhile. It's funny, because when I tell people i'm not on Facebook, they scoff like they don't believe me.
