Doctor Who new companion after season 7?

I have to agree, the choices for companions is motivated by drawing in the straight male audience 16-25 age range. Although, I'll reserve judgment until I see this person in action, her storyline and overal arc. I feel however, she will be another River Song. Somehow overshadowing and making the Doctor look like a secondary character in his own show. I wouldn't be surprised if she turned out to be the Rani. Does anyone remember all those rumours about Gillian Anderson playing her!?

I'd rather just have an interesting companion that has a more straight-forward back story. I don't want a bland companion with a bizarre and confusing time-line or some gimmicky thing like that, FFS. I'm really starting to miss the RTD era over here. :dead:.

I second that... Russell may not have been the best writer on Who but the overall feeling from the series during his tenure was that it was fun, heartfelt and warm in a family way. I don't feel that much with these past two series. Moffat was the best writer during the RTD era, but as showrunner he is all over the place. Not one of the episodes during his tenure thus far has really grabbed me the way Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace or The Empty Child have. His writing in those episodes was far more focused than his recent offerings. So, I hope that this new season brings some of that fun and warmth again. Not to mention a connection to home for the companion. Does anyone remember Moffat saying that his series would not have any of the domestics of RTD era. Its funny because in the two years since the RTD era, we've had two weddings, a baby dilemma, who's the daddy drama, some romantic confusion and the emasculation of Rory by Amy and the Doctor by River. So natch there, Sir Grand MOFF!
