Outing Gay Conservatives

"Outrage," a new documentary from filmmaker Kirby Dick, takes issue with the secret lives of closeted gay politicians -- especially conservative Republicans who outwardly oppose gay rights.

"Outrage" premieres May 8 in five cities, including Washington, D.C.

From Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker Kirby Dick (This Film Is Not Yet Rated) comes Outrage, a searing indictment of the hypocrisy of closeted politicians with appalling gay rights voting records who actively campaign against the LGBT community they covertly belong to. Boldly revealing the hidden lives of some of the United States' most powerful policymakers, Outragetakes a comprehensive look at the harm they've inflicted on millions of Americans, and examines the media's complicity in keeping their secrets.

With analysis from prominent members of the gay community such as Congressman Barney Frank, former NJ Governor Jim McGreevey, activist Larry Kramer, radio personality Michelangelo Signorile, and openly gay congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (Representative, Wisconsin 2nd district), Outrageprobes deeply into the psychology of this double lifestyle, the ethics of outing closeted politicians, the double standards that the media upholds in its coverage of the sex lives of gay public figures, and much more.

I am very much against outing people until they are ready.

But I do think that people that prosecute gay people, or oppose gay rights, are putting themselves in the line of fire.

So I am torn about it, in one hand, I don't want to intrude on people's private lives, on the other hand they DO intrude on my life and my rights...

just rambling, that's all

Everyone has a right to their privacy.

Until they start to shit on my doorstep.

Then I'll ruin their lives, humiliate their rent a wives, destroy their families, end their jobs, publicly tar and feather them and I'll sleep well after doing it.

Larry Craig DESERVES to be outed and his pathetic wife and son who are defending him deserve to be taken out too.

I'll respect the private citizen that is working out what all those gooey feelings are about. But the public office holder who's words and deeds affect my life had better be living what they preach... [-X

But the problem with this documentary, apparently, is that it "outs" some people who may or may not be gay. When he was on Terry Gross's show, she quite clearly found the whole thing distasteful, and she's not exactly homophobic.

I wasn't a big fan of his previous documentary either, where he made a good case and then weakened it with some dumb-ass theatrics.

^^^Big difference between you or I saying "Omigod he's so gay" versus alleging it in a documentary when you don't have any proof.

I don't think you're going to find many people to agree with that.

I am very much against outing people until they are ready.

These people aren't shrinking violets who happen to have a completely LGBT-unrelated traditionalistic career, they're people who -among other things- attack existing LGBT-rights head on.

Having them be called out on not practicing what they preach is the least thing the LGBT-community can do.

This documentary sounds like excellent viewing material.
