Dodgeball, one 4th grader hit another with a ball and got charged with agg assault... no, really

Perhaps you don't own your bias, but anyone choosing an article with a title that includes "racially" in large font, is either disingenuous or deceptive. If you read the article which you linked, you could not have avoided it's racial direction in every sentence. It was literally the point of the article. Being "careful" not to use the term in your post doesn't change the point of the article.

I don't have any position that is was racial or not, as we can't know without being there or seeing it, but the case is only in that article because of the racial allegation.

And as I said before, I know about the racial thing brought up in that article. But it didn't occur to me to not use it. I was googling around and happened to have picked that link for this thread. I did it without thinking about it. And as I said before, this is not a trial and I am not an expert on the stand. I don't want to spend that much brain power on something like this. I'm not insinuating anything. I'm not trying to half say anything. I absentmindedly used that link to convey this story. Just like how my leg is on my coffee table right now. I'm not trying to give any hidden meaning behind me having one foot on the coffee table. I don't know what else to say about this.

I prefer lollipop flavored cock.

Back on topic: the goal of dodgeball is to hurt someone, especially in the face. Instead of a game getting the aggression out, I suspect it leads to more aggression being acceptable. I was also a little suspicious of guys who aim at other guys crotches.

In the US version it's a poopie-flavored lollipop, just thought I might warn you.

To the topic of dodgeball, it has always been sanctioned bullying. The whole theme of the movie is basically that.

It doesn't reward prowess, only brutality.

Any school still allowing it is either oblivious or some boys' military academy, etc.

^ The balls we used for it were first light volleyball balls, which were replaced by very soft foam-rubber things. In our primary school, it was quite popular, even with kids that were always chosen last with other team sports. Like me.

America is a little more violent. Coaches are also often wanting to toughen up the boys.

Michigan must be behind the times.

The State of New York outlawed dodgeball as both a physical education and playground game years ago!

good because I remember it because in high school it became clear who the male sadists would be as adults.

Some refer to them as "no sting" rubber balls. The reality is that most balls used for dodgeball were similar to volleyballs or even soccer balls. They were not nerf balls. They were intended to inflict pain, bloody noses or worse.
Some players were so traumatized they developed a lifelong fear of balls near their faces. #-o

We used balls that were soft as hell.

I remember this one time when one (or more) kid was purposely targeting a special needs kid by hitting him in the head (we used dozens of balls in an auditorium full of dozens of kids). He just kept saying "Ow!" while grabbing his head, and eventually fell on the floor, fingerpoke of doom style. Hilarious, yet fucked up; seriously, did the faculty not foresee that the bullies would troll the special needs kids?

It was on the radio this morning they weren't playing dodgeball at all. They were playing a game during recess called tip where everyone stands in a circle and throws the ball in the air across to the other player. The ball has to be caught while the other player is jumping in the air. One ball was missed and the game stopped to retrieve the ball. The 4th grade retrieved the ball and whipped it at the face of the victim.

That was according to the police report.

Well, if they've got video, then they've got video. Whipping it at head height is a rather blatant move.

Still don't think the kid should be playing contact sports though. With a propensity for head injury it's just a matter of time.

I think they could stand to restructure gym class entirely, personally. There's entirely too many sports in there instead of new and inventive games that don't focus quite so much on competition and tiny objects. Seem to remember games when I was younger contained just as much activity and considerably less physical contact. Few of those could be updated, make it interesting.

That is a horrible way to do gym class. Incompetent teachers.

Very much this.

And PE was rarely fully supervised. Coaches must have hated being assigned to "teach" non-athletes anything.

Should be a rule no face throwing lovely little fuckers used to love hitting me in the face & in the glasses!

This version of the event was what I had read. The article I read went even further with details. The ball was described as a rubber ball but it didn't describe how hard the ball was. I think when I was in school volleyballs were used to play the game. The article went on to say that the juvenile prosecutor filed the charge because of the injuries (concussion and facial injuries) and the elements of the crime being meant. However, the head prosecutor for the County or District ordered the charge to be dismissed in hopes that the parents could work something out due to the age of the "suspect." But the prosecutor said if something can not be worked out then the prosecutors office can revisit the situation.
