Does a ’gay’ softball team need a homo-quota?

North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAA) rules state a team in the series may have no more than two straight players on its squad. A review indicated that four of the six players were straight, D2 was disqualified, the championship was awarded to the Vipers, and the Mudcats and other teams which finished behind D2 all moved up a notch in the standings.

Do you think heterosexuals should be excluded? Seems sort of silly that they would allow 2 but not 3 or 4 straight people to play on a team.

You let in one straight then there's two and then three and so on---they freaking multiply.](*,)

North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance - not gay = not a member IMO - therefore no confusion as to numbers allowed.

Yeah but why would we want to disregard any support straight members would be showing by joining such an organization? The title "Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance" should signify that it is gay-friendly and gay-supported, and not signify that there's no heteros allowed.

Wanna show them how to do it without the multiplying part??

I have had a few drinks---I am really "loose"----hell, maybe a bit drunk---so whatcha wanna do??

But don't they separate men and women in the Olympics because men and women have different physical abilities when it comes to precise adjudication?

What's the difference between MP's example and a start-up bowling league? Isn't it supposed to be just for fun?

It's not really fair to join a gay softball league and then stack your team with straight players just to win, is it?

It's to keep out 'ringers'. Sure, there are plenty of good gay softball players out there, but there are way more good straight ones namely because there are way more straight people in general.

We should embrace those willing to step in our world, not penalize becuase of it.

Oh fuck that shit.

You go whine to BET that they're not running episodes of the Mary Tyler Moore show. Come back and tell us what they say.

Straight people have their own world, thanks, and because we're often not very welcome in it, we like to create one of our own. I'm always telling people here to stop meeting people in bars or on Manhunt and instead to go meet men by joining a gay baseball team or a gay bowling league.... now we have to worry about them coming back and saying "all the guys I met there were straight too."

Besides... we need our own groups too. The same reason that men don't join women's organizations is the reason that straight people should be excluded from gay teams. It's not bigotry, it's us keeping the straight people from defeating our purposes.

Whenever gay people create something cool.... bars, neighborhoods... straight people move it, squeeze us out and make it their own. Are there no straight teams for those people to play on?

In these here parts Martin when a club is a man's club there are no women allowed, when Curves Gym says women only there are no men allowed and when an AA support group starts up there are only alcoholics at it - a gay team should consist of gays only IMO.

Well in THESE here parts, noelie....

yeah, it's the same here.

That's prolly why I don't do clubs though. :D

You just win the intranets :p

Straight people just don't need they own organizations, by cheer fuck that no one will hunt them down if they try to join a organization.

O this is ridiculous....We do not want to be discriminated against correct? then why the fuck would we discriminate against someone else...If straight guys want to join a gay club why wouldnt they be allowed? IT is not like male/female separation in sports since we all have the same capabilities....Your arguments make no sense Soilwork because who is to say that no one wants to make friends with gay friendly straights...Also using the olympics separation argument that would be like separating the lesbians from our femals teams....And if what you meant was to meet gay people for romantic relationships in gay sports clubs that point it pretty much mute because typically people do not join sports clubs to have a relationship.....

This is just bull...how can we justify being separatists then complain when we are discriminated against?

I don't know... it's very segregating. A gay man tries to join a straight team, and what happens? They'll say, "Join the fairy team"

But there ARE no "straight" teams.

Thats' the point.

There's just mainstream teams and gay teams.

If straight people needed to create their own community out of necessity because of those mean homos who were everywhere, then yes.. they could exclude us.

They can not exlude us from the teams though...well not directly..sure they can make us feel unwelcome but if that is the case what if these straight guys are uys who do want to play ball with us compared to the homophobic jocks?...i think them playing on this team is only a good thing

It all seems a bit petty, it is supposed to be fun! So what if staight people want to play with gay friends and the convinient legue happens to be gay?

If they are filling the team with straight ringers just to win, then they are sad shits, but that is there personnal problem, I would just let them play.

If there is going to be a gay softball league,it's clear that a team shouldn't be so diluted with straights to make the distinction meaningless, but it has to have an inclusive spirit.Hard to say where that distinction should be made, but an arbitrary limit of two is also wrong if the applicants have the ability to make the squad.Obviously if straights join who have no problem with or actively embrace the gay community, maybe have friends or relatives who are bi,gay or lesbian that is something to be very encouraged about.

Actually, I guess that ones should be counted as "non-straight". Not sure about GLBT friends part.
