Does AMERICA SUE TOO MUCH??????

Probably the majority of the people that sue are always on the lookout for ways to sue somebody or something. There are definitely flaws in the court system.

Yep, if they slip on a ketchup wrapper then they're likely to sue the people who left it on the ground. People sometimes sue for the most silliest shit ever.

Greed seems to be the main factor here. America is not really a democracy. It's more like a VICTIMOCRACY.

Perhaps it's like the law of therapists, the number of social problems increases in direct proportion to the number of therapists to deal with them.

The number of court cases increases in direct proportion to the number of Lawyers avilable to deal with them.

Then look at America which has the highest ratio of lawyers and therapists in the community than any other country.

Yes. We Americans are a bunch of greedy babies... I'm sorry to break the news to everyone. :(

Many Americans just don't want to take responsibility for their own actions. For example, I read some where that a man sued a lawn mowere manufacturer for his hand getting cut off when he put it underneath the lawnmower while it was still running to unclog it. The reason he won was because their was no waarning on the lawnmower. Now lawnmoweres have a warning label attached.

Many years ago, when I read in the paper that there was a elderly woman who was trying to sue God. Her house was struck by lightning.

It could have proceeded, but eventually the case was a no go, when the court figured that there was no way for the woman to collect the money if she won.

That's why I enjoy programmes like Judge Judy and People's Court so much. (I don't watch any of the others. They're too much like Jerry Springer.)

Floorrunner is right, too many people will NOT take responsibility for their own actions. It is always someone else's problem or they spend more time trying to figure out how to ripe someone else off instead of doing any work. Like suing for spilling HOT coffee in ones lap? DAH, hot liquids burn the flesh.

In addition to the above, some people feel they are "owed" something. I don't know why they think they are so special that they should get something for nothing, but that adds to the problem.

If Americans - (is that limited to just those in North America or does that include both Central and South?) were not busy litigating, think of all the lawyers out of work and out mingling with their betters. Best to keep lawyers in the courts and in the halls of government were they do not contaminate others.

Yes, we sue too much over trivial things. We should pass a law which would make the claimant or sue-er pay the defendant's leagl fees if the defendant is found not liable or the suit is thrown out of court. It would sure give folks a reason for not suing over frivilous things.

Ours is the most litigeous society in the world and it's not only because of greedy people....more to do with a country that allows LAWYERS to run rampant with the legal system. Remember, most of your representatives in Congress are also LAWYERS who pass every single piece of stupid legislation that allows people to sue for anything under the sun. They are simply giving their legal buddies carte blanche to instigate lawsuits...and lobbied to do so by the SECOND BIGGEST UNION in this country....The American Bar Association...a close second to the American Medical Association.

Just look at one piece of legislation...the so-called "Bankruptcy Reform Act". There are as many personal bankruptcies being filed as there ever were. They claimed the change was to curb abuse of the bankruptcy laws. HA! The BIGGEST abusers are companies and corporations and they are EXEMPT from the change. It is just that the attorneys (and congress) have added a few more hurtles for the peasantry to deal with so that all those bankruptcy attorneys can have an excuse to raise their fees for this popular procedure. In this same way, laws are randomly changed and manipulated to favor lawsuits and the attorneys laugh all the way to the bank.

It's all about politics more than it is about the average person being greedy. TV ads fill the airwaves with ambulance chasers and personal injury lawyers...because the LAW gives them the right.

You know, I'm an American and I feel that this is libel. So I'm suing all of you for libel and defamation of character.

I have your names and I have your IPs and I know where you post, so expect something in the mail reeeeaaallll soon....

America is a society that feels no self responsibility.... everything that happens is someone else's fault... take for instance the kids sueing mcdonalds for making them fat.... as far as I know Ronald Mcdonald did not show up at their home and put a gun to their head and force them to eat all that crap... plus the lack of social responisbility also is fueled by greed... why work for a living when their is an easier way to make money.....

Here in Canada they passed the frivolous lawsuit act which states that if a lawsuit is found to be frivolous then the plaintiff loses the case, given a fine for taking up valuable court time, and forced to pay all legal expenses.... they need something like that in America but if they every passed it the ACLU would be on the case in moments....

The most unusual lawsuits make the news so what it seems like is that everyone is suing over things like McDonalds making them fat or some other very unusual suit.

Maybe we do sue too much but the majority of lawsuits are the mundane suits that come from little tiny car accidents. Fender benders and then the plaintiff claims back injury and/or the like. Little mini personal injuries suits make up the lion's share of suits. That and possibly small claims court issues. (??)

Also technically everytime a divorced couple goes back to court to dicker about child support, they're involved in a "law suit." The idea of a law "suit" is much broader than just the ones that make headline news.
