I actually really like American Life, Hollywood is an amazing and catchy song , so is Die another day (although, Die another day was a top ten hit), i also like im so stupid, and love profusion, american life was good too!

I dont think it was bad. Just different. I mean it was all dark themed and non-dancey. But I enjoyed it for what it is.

"Yes, it's true, Madonna has the toilet seat removed from all the venues she plays to prevent it being sold after the show. She also had all the good songs removed from her latest album for much the same reason."

Can't say I'm a fan at all, but I had to make that (paraphrased) quote. Incidentally, it's Angus Deayton who said it, on Would I Lie To You.

Madonna and rapping just don't go together. I mean I kinda liked 'American Life' but that song about her father was just....bad. Almost as bad as 50 Cent rapping.

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

I think "American life" was Madonna's edgier album ever.

In terms of music it was a follow up to "Music". The electro pop got darker and noiser and the lyrics were equally painfull and angry statements about the state of the world post 9/11.

"American life" didn't sell as much as it was expected for a Madonna album. But that censored video became a new milestone on her career. And in a time where all were afraid to speak up their minds, she did it and almost got burned for it.

Bottom line: She was right. Almost five years later, most people realized what she already knew back then.

"I’m just livin’ out the American dream
And I just realized that nothin’ is what it seems"

It was a different direction she chose for her music, and people who were used to her pop stuff didn't like it. This was actually the album that got me into Madonna. :)

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

I liked AMERICAN LIFE. It's mutch better then that stupid crap The Emancipation of Mimi ... anyway, the best songs on that album are:

INTERVATION
X-STATIC PROCESS
LOVE PROFUSION
NODOBY KNOWS ME
EASY RIDE

---that album is so amazing. and the reason people thinks it's "bad" it is becaouse of stupid repulican music critics and the press who were bashing her because of antiwar video.

if she didn't make that video, and if she didn't have had american life song on it, everyone would saying that album is great..

I liked American life and i'm not afraid to admit it! :D

Love profusion was my favourite along with hollywood and die another day.

Mariah Carey is a talentless bitch. Madonna is so much more talented than her.

And she didn't have to fuck and marry a record exec to get a career.

Lmao @ that one. I dont see where all the Mariah hate is coming from. They are both fierce.
And I know you dont seriously believe that Madonna wasn't fucking whoever she needed to to get to where she wanted to be. I love her to death but that twat has seen more cocks than a urologist.

Back on topic, to me, American Life was and is a great album. People like to hate for no reason.

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

I don't like the album at all.

I respect her for attempting to "reassert" herself on record - her previous two albums were good, but she had started to sound like a guest star on her own work. Her producers were beginning to overshadow her. So I can understand her wanting to make her presence felt again. But the lyrics ended up sounding REALLY clumsy and forced a lot of the time, and the music wasn't as good, either. I honestly didn't like any song on there much at all.

I loved American Life.

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

American life is one of my most favorite albumns of hers, and i liked the song American life as well. Very apt.

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

It's all about timing and what was happening in the U.S. in March of 2003. The war in the Middle East had just begun and everybody was feeling so horrible because of it.

The lead video from Madonna's "American Life" was so anti-George Bush (translation = not supporting the U.S. troops) that even Madonna herself pulled the video leaving no real promotion for the album thus it's quick drop from No. 1 to No. 8 and off the entire Billboard 200 in only a couple of months.

"Hollywood," the summer follow-up, although a good song seemed to be it's own worst enemy with it's bite-the-hand-that-feeds you sentimentality.

At least Madonna didn't suffer as much as The Dixie Chicks. La M did lay low a little in 2004 and 2005, and in my opinion, that helped her a lot.

American Life is my favorite Madonna album & I love all of her albums (except for "Ray Of Light")...

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

it's one of my favorite albums by her, actually.

I still shake my head at how a turd-pile like Bedtime Stories got released.. it's just the same shiity song 9 times in a row with a Bjork song sung painfully out of tune and that "I'm not sorry" song where she complains about how people were bored of her being such a slut on Erotica.

Re: Does anyone else think Madonnas "American Life" Album was as bad as they said it

song sung painfully out of tune

Doesn't that effectively sum up her entire catalogue? I watched some concert footage of her on youtube and it never ceases to amaze me what a complete non-vocalist she really is....the biggest fraud in pop music.
