I'm transcribing a diary an airman kept in 1917-18. He mentions on June 28, 1918, that "W.S.J. day was celebrated by opening the field to West Point [Mississippi] and vicinity."

The only references I can find for those initials are for the Wall Street Journal. So not what I'm looking for. Can any of you shed some light on this mystery? Thanks!!
 
It could be, Van. It's script from 1918. Anything's possible. It's very clearly W.S. though. I'm going with "J" for the other only because it matches his "J" in "New Jersey." I tried a T and that didn't work, either. I'm was hoping it was related to June 28, but alas.... *sigh*

It is threads like this which amaze me. This is what "community" is all about - people helping people for no other reason than they want to. I hope the WSJ question gets answered, and best of luck to all you guys.

Hey, T! Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, this project has had to go to the back burner for a while. Lots of other stuff going on that demands immediate attention. But never fear, I'll get back to it as soon as possible.
 
I thought I would mention that names of holidays have changed over the decades. I have a diary which my grandmother wrote in the 1920's and she mentions holidays and occasions in there which don't exist anymore. I can't even find references to them on the internet. The old names have been lost to us.
