Yes, they know something you (apparently) don't. They know "if the public bought it once, they'll buy it again." Which is why Fast and Furious 6 has been the biggest moneymaker the last two weeks. And they've noticed people flock to apocalyptic films, so they made a shitton more of them for you to spend your nickels on.

pretty much.

and big budget action flicks tend to be more of a draw in the huge international market, because it's easier to translate blowing shit up into Mandarin than a nuanced indie comedy.

eh, its not that easy, tho. john carter bombed, the blair witch project came out of nowhere.

anyway, im a sucker for post-apocalypse porn. i will watch just about anything if its set in a post-apocalyptic world. i dont know what exactly it is about it... i guess i find it romantic, in a twisted kind of way.

Oh, nothing's guaranteed. But that's why they tend to play it exceptionally safe. You're gambling anywhere from $30 to $200 million on a big return investment, and you're going to want the odds as stacked in your favor as you can get them. Which is why they tend to stick with the stuff that history showed tended to reward the most often. For decades, there was an unwritten rule in Hollywood - "no pirate films", because they always lost money. Until "The Pirates of the Caribbean" series. And then they decided pirate movies were OK. :)

If we keep buying products they're selling...yes, they do know more than us.

Hollywood IS a business first and foremost. A business's main focus is to make money/profit. They pay a lot more attention/research on consumer buying patterns than most of us.

Hangover III. clearly people will pay to watch the same movie over and over.

I dunno but some Zombies are cute

I'll probably watch them all as i love popcorn movies.

Apart from The Will Smith film, i refuse to support that vile brood.

Do you mean you hate Will Smith or is the movie bad? I have only glanced at the trailer a few times and I was thinking of seeing it.

After Earth, that Will Smith flick is the shits! There is some talk of it being the worst movie of all time.

Both, I think. Will thinks of himself as box office gold. He isn't. And his kids wouldn't even have careers if it wasn't for him. As for the film, the box office numbers speak for themselves. His movie is bombing all over the place. (Rotten Tomatoes gives it 12%.) He's like Tom Cruise. He can't play anyone other than himself.

Now I'm interested in seeing it just to see how bad  I just don't want to pay for it. I'll wait for it to be tv or dvd, which may not be a long wait.

^ It has been compared to Battlefield Earth, that John Travolta travesty which Rotten Tomatoes gave only 2%.

The Purge looks absolutely terrifying!!!

And This Is The End looks like fun.

I thought Battlefield Earth was the worst movie of all time.

damn those sciencetologists. I thought they created the cosmos.

oh well

Hollywood is living in Groundhog Day, as well

Creature from the Black Lagoon, It came from outer space, The Blob, The day the earth stood still, War of the worlds, Night of the living dead...these same scripts have been rehashed for a long time now.

I love these type of films.

Not everything has to be deep and meaningful.

Just think of it like sex.

I understand that a remake of Creature From The Black Lagoon might be in the works
