On Topic Discussion Does music ever make you cry?

Not recently, but yes. The first time I heard "The Sweetest Thing" by Lauryn Hill, I teared up. Usually these days, music gives me a charge to keep going on, and that's all I need.

Music no, but I can be such a sap during movies sometimes, lol.

yay! I'm in good company! :D You hear things that just "fit" so fucking perfectly, you can't help but cry.

I sometimes wonder if artists/musicians/producers realize how special their work can be to the listeners.

Music has kept me "sane" during some of the most troubling times. I don't think I could live without it. :) It's like a drug.

The only songsters that I can think of who can bring me to tears is ABBA and Cass Elliot just because of the immense emotion in their voices and songs.

Musically speaking, some classical music pieces can make my eyes leak, especially video performances.

It hasn't happened to me yet. Some songs do bring back some old memories but not to the point where I cry.

"Touch" by Daft Punk makes me tear up a little bit, especially the bit at the end. The pure emotion in Nile Rodgers's voice when he sings that outro just hits me right in the heart.

Half and half. I've had music that has made me cry, but mot of the time it's more nostalgic songs that have messages that I can relate to. Some old Disney songs and some songs from musicals tend to do this to me. The songs I have in my iPod that are more pop and indie/alternative don't have the same effect on me.

Oh yeah...most definitely. Anytime I relate something back to my childhood, etc. there's a high chance that it will have a strong emotional impact on me...and yes, tears usually find their way to the surface.

I think for me it is mostly the singer and if they own the song and if I can "feel it"....

A saxaphone helps a lot too..|

lol I feel ya. Saxophones are just too much sometimes (in a good way). ;) I also agree with you about the singer(s) owning the song. One thing I particularly enjoy is when ad libs are so delicate and nuanced that you are constantly "noticing" different vocal inflections throughout the song.

... but occasionally because the music is so appallingly awful that I am reduced to tears of genuine pain.

 :dead:

I love that song.

"One More Time" does it for me. :( Especially seeing the music video...

There are some songs that I can't even talk about because I get overwhelmed by emotions and start to cry. The italian singer Zuchero sings this wonderful song called "Diamante" it moves me to tears to the point that if I even try to sing it I choke up and start crying. We saw him in concert a few weeks back and as soon as the song started, so did the waterworks, good thing I was prepared with tissues because as soon as my partner saw me crying he started crying too and our girlfriend that was with us too. Oh well.... here you go.

"Where do I go when part of me is dying?
Somewhere they are baking new bread there is peace in my life.
I'll be the rain and you'll be heaven crying.
My heart will be filled with flowers upon the snowfields of white.

And we will learn to walk together (will dance in the dark)
And hand in hand will walk together, Domenica"

For sure - the song "What My Heart Wants To Say" by Gareth Gates does it for me every time.

Bambi searching for his dead mother.

Amazing Grace on Bagpipes...kinda sends chills down my spine and an occasional bit of mist to my eyes....

"What Does the Fox Say?" gets me every time.

Joey Essex album, brings a read to my eye. Im happy for him, he's cute too.

Oh i saw him on This Morning yesterday plugging his book, you could tell he hadn't even read it let alone written it, hilarious.

Awesome, he deserves to be a no1 best seller.

Yes, very often.

Usually because the beauty of the piece touches me deeply* ... but occasionally because the music is so appallingly awful that I am reduced to tears of genuine pain.

My thoughts too!

Actually I think flip it, though -- I'm more often agonized over how bad something is.
