HBO Max is set to release, "Santa Inc", an 8-episode series about an elf who wants to replace Santa.

Apparently, Christmas is " too male and too white". But this trailer is getting an awful reception - YouTube comments have been turned off.

I do love black Santas. But white male Santas have created an awful lot of joy and Christmas cheer for so many years.

It's one of the pitiable few opportunities for old white men to express joy and generosity, and a concern for kids, in a socially approved way. I'd much rather know or be a Santa than another crotchety old man.

And, oh...Merry Christmas.

If we can't have Christmas anymore then maybe the USA has become "Scrooge Nation", a barren landscape devoid of love for anyone.

Well that trailer failed to raise even a chuckle from me, I can say that much. And when I realised that Seth Rogen was the voice of Santa I soured on the whole thing completely.

The movie trailer strikes me like a hyped-up meal that leaves you with a bad case of indigestion. This film seems to have fallen into the rut that animation over the last 40 years or so has followed: It portrays life in a cynical, show-all-the-warts of society's icons approach, but really offers no alternatives. The movie has an over-reliance on profanity and crude jokes, probably to cover for the lack of real ideas. Here we have a girl elf who desires to succeed Santa, a Santa who is surrounded by, and is the epitome of, aging white frat boy culture. The film's solution? Be like them! This completely misses the point of having women and minorities in positions of authority. What good would it do the world to have a female generalissimo (a?), for instance? So, instead of imagining the possibilities of a different world with a female ethnic Santa, we get the message that she needs to be just like the old white Santa to succeed.

obviously another Seth Rogen stoned out of his mind film idea--it looks funny--elves saying fuck is funny lol--I'll watch it.

(the only Santa I can get on my phone as an emoji is a Black Santa --have no idea how it got there.)

And I thought we were scraping the bottom of the animation barrel with "Sing 2," sequel to an unloved movie.

Well, all I can say is that my friend from across the pond, "The Critical Drinker", agrees with all of us.

Everytime pop culture hits bottom . . . the floor gives way:

hmmm...this could work

let's bring Santa into the 21rst. century :xmas:

The 21st century? Ditch the fossil-fuel-powered things.

The reindeer are the wave of the future.
