English actor Ellis Howard

I just saw the first episode of what it feels like for a girl. This was before I looked him up. In my head I kept saying this dude looks a lot older than a teenager. Sure enough, I looked him up and he's 28.

He look 15 to anyone? Why do they keep casting a lot older dudes to play teenagers? There was a movie I saw where a high schoolers was played by a 32 yr old dude. Like, seriously?

No, he doesn't look 15. He's an actor playing younger. Nothing unusual in that. For instance, Kit Connor and Joe Locke who are both 21 play characters who are 16 or younger in Heartstopper.

He doesn't look 15. Maybe it's easier to use an adult to play a teen than to use real teens because of the laws.

Then use a 20 year old. I am not saying don't use a real 15 year old. Between 18 and 28, there is a whole decade of age range to choose from.

He was right for the part. That's generally the reason people are cast.

Half the high school "kids" in the movie Carrie were well into their twenties. Comedienne Edie McClurg, whom I adore, was thirty when she was cast as one of Carrie's classmates. Just a few years later, she played the middle aged housewife in Cheech and Chong's Next Movie, followed a few years later by her turn as Grace in Ferris Bueller.

He can convincingly play a teen. That's all that is required. Angela Lansbury played Elvis' mother in Blue Hawaii, despite being only 9 years his senior.

And it wasn't because she looked old. It was because she was matronly, a big difference.

Maybe Ellis Howard is youthful, and therefore good at portraying a teen.

And, in one of Samuel Jackson's Shaft movies, Richard Roundtree portrayed his father with only 7 years of age difference between them
