Was driving and something flew out of my trailer and hit the car behind. I was gonna pay for it if it was below the deductible. They just texted me saying the estimate was $2k. I don't know anything about auto body work. I already told my agent to file a claim. You think this looks like $2k?

No it don't. Maybe they replace that entire piece if it's fiberglass? Ridiculous price either way.

I think the whole industry is corrupt now.

Some moths back I had a similar very minor dent from a lady the Post Office backing into me. She gave me her insurance info and I called to make an appointment but almost didn't due to how minor it was.

I forgot how much it was but I think it was a litteleover a thousand bucks.

It's not a separate component which can easily be replaced. The whole thing is integrated.

Can't really say, since I don't know anything about car body repair. I'd probably ask questions, too, but I also woudn't be surprised if wasn't this expensive.

I remember a high school teacher got a brand new minivan in the late 1980s. And someone hit it shortly after. He was pretty astounded when he heard how much the repair estimate was. And the insurance person he talked to said the way things were going with costs, it would reach a point when a vehicle would routinely be totaled, unless the vehicle was new, or else had very, very minor damage.

Everything now is 2k.

And they know your insurance will pay for it.

Ouch.

Check to see if it will increase your rates. Might be better to pay out of pocket in the long term.

BTW. He might not like being posted on a gay porn site for privacy reasons?

It doesn't look like $2K and could be a scam but, they don't pound out the dent and paint it anymore. They replace a whole piece of fiberglass as gsdx said. The only way to know is if you worked in a KIA body repair shop. It may be possible this could be $2K.

Yep - that is $2K.

The bumper is now one piece - it can not be patched they have to replace the entire bumper and then match the paint. In the old days part of the bumper could be pounded out and it would look pretty close - but with the current designs the entire bumper will be replaced.

And seeing as the rest of the car looks pretty new I am sure he wants it replaced and made to look like the rest of his car.

No, but it is possible because everything has these sensors in it and what not now a days. God remember when cars were made out of actual metal?

It is why they are called accidents.

Did you check into seeing if it would be cheaper to just pay out of pocket?

This is why sensible jurisdictions insist that all loads be tarped.

You're lucky you live in hillbilly land.
