Does whiskey go bad?

Technically, no...

In barrels and glass containers it just gets better and better the more it ages...

But, plastic bottles can turn the flavor a bit sour after awhile... It's still good, though... Alcohol never spoils.

not that i know of, but i dont actively look for expiration dates on alcohol. i think though it gets stronger as it gets older though

That may be what it is. I gave up drinking regularly a couple of years ago. The Crown Royal I just opened was left over from then.

^ You should do another shot just to make sure it's OK. ;)

I only opened it to celebrate something. I don't know if I can handle another.!oops!

Just that one shot has me going already.

Kind of funny since I use to down this stuff by the bottle.

Nope.. it does not go bad... well pehaps if you opened a bottle of Crown from a hunded years ago it may have gone bad...

And contrary to what someone wrote ^, nope it does not get stronger either..

It stays the same for year up on year..

Wine may go 'bad' depending on the type it is... but whiskey is extremely long lasting.

So take another shot, but maybe dilute it with a bit of water...

(!)(!)(!)..|

^ Because I think taking shots is a waste.

Yes.

If you're going to slam shots, get a cheap brand.

Then sip some good stuff for the flavor.

I have autism. I can't handle most strong tastes. If I don't "slam" it, I can't drink it. The reason I use to drink CR is because it is about the only drink I can handle, but not slowly unless I mix it with coke.

Out Of The Past

Whatever the industry, advertisement, so called experts: writers
for the English Whisky Magazine, the American Malt Advocate or
others tell you:

The quality of the spirits destilled in the sixties, seventies or earlier,
bottled and sold over twenty years ago was definitely better: more
aromatic, fuller bodied, richer, smoother.

I'm no oldtimer, I tasted my first whisky eight years ago in a bar:
Single Malts from Scotland: Cragganmore, Macallan, Talisker.
They were drinkable but not overwhelming.

Now and then I buy some old bottles at http://whiskyauction.com
and elsewhere. Malt, Blended, Vatted, Bourbon, Rye...

Take for example a "high class Bourbon" like Old Fitzgerald from a shop,
compare the stuff with some Old Fitz bottles from the sixties - they are
worlds apart in class and quality....

That's not much of an aspiration or goal -- pigs can get drunk.

Go for getting a good buzz and maintaining it -- that takes skill, and is a lot more fun than getting drunk.

I didn't say I did it for the fun.
