In a surprise move, Don Cheadle will replace Terrence Howard as Robert Downey Jr's best friend in "Iron Man 2," the sequel to the superhero saga.

In the Marvel Studios summer smash, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying "Next time," a line that caused great delight for fans. But there will be no next time for Howard.

Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua's "Brooklyn's Finest" with Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke.

The Rhodes character is expected to play a larger part in the sequel, which is rumored to go beyond high-tech villains. Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay.

Jon Favreau is returning as director.

"Iron Man 2" is scheduled for release on May 7, 2010.

Look alike?...

Well... They look as much alike as New York and Paris, if you ask me.

I know it was a joke, and I also knew what you look like before you posted your pic.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to explain the joke. :-)

And believe me: You are ten times cuter than Martin Lawrence.

ugh! I don't like that guy. And I'm not a big Robert Downey fan either. Why they gotta do that?

Easy: Terrence Howard asked for a substancial paycheck raise and the boys from Marvel Studios went for a cheaper option.

Too bad, Terrence was an excellent original choice to play Jim Rhodes.

This is a shame because I liked Terrence Howard in the role and I think he's sexy as hell. Still, at the end of the day, Cheadle is a solid actor and they could have done a lot worse than bringing him on board.

It was supposed to be a joke about black people but I'm not in top shape today. It's a common joke that people of the same race look alike to someone who isn't a member of that race. A black person would say all white people look alike to them, a white person would say all Asian people look alike to them, etc... I've gotten a few comparisons that don't make much other than us both being black.

Here's me

I've been told that I resemble Martin Lawrence.

And Lee Thompson young. I can sorta see this one, we have the same complexion, brown eyes, and large features (lips, nose).

There is no comparison. And you are way cuter than Martin.

UPDATE
Terrence Howard has slammed reports he pulled out of a planned sequel to superhero blockbuster Iron Man over a pay row - insisting he was snubbed by movie bosses.

U.S. reports suggest Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man/Tony Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow will be back as Pepper Potts, but Howard will sit out the project.

The part was rumoured to have been offered to Ocean's Eleven star Don Cheadle after Howard demanded too much money to reprise his role as Iron Man's best pal Jim Rhodes in the 2010 sequel.

But the star insists the news came as a shock to him - because he was mid-negotiations when the role was taken away from him.

He tells America's NPR radio, "It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. (The contract) just... up and vanished.

"I read something in the trade (publications) implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes."

He adds, "Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."

I think they're both great actors but I'd prefer Howard stay in the role cause when they change rolls from movie to movie its always a bit jarring #-o

Although I welcomed the switch from Katie Holmes in Batman Begins to Maggie Gylenhaal in the Dark Knight. Holmes was ok in Begins, but the Dark Knight would have required a little more from her and I don't think she could have pulled it off. Plus Holmes looks about 16 and she was playing an assistant D.A.

16 or not, it would have been better to keep Katie instead of replacing her.
I mean, it annoys me big time when they change actors, especially when they play important parts. That's why I always welcome trilogies like Star Wars, Spider-Man or X-Men. Those movies kept the original cast from beginning to end.

The only replace I consider to be brillant was Michael Gabon filling the shoes of the late Richard Harris as Dumbledore in "Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban".
