Donna Summer Fans Prepare For 10CD Box Set

Donna Summer is to be celebrated with the release of Donna, Vinyl and CD Box sets featuring seven albums with a host of compelling extras.

Released on Summer’s own Driven By The Music imprint through the Crimson record label on December 1, Donna features The Wanderer, Donna Summer, Cats Without Claws, All Systems Go, Another Place And Time, Mistaken Identity and I’m A Rainbow.

The release of the Donna box sets, will not only delight longtime Donna Summer fans, as well as the generation that’s grown up learning about her indelible mark on contemporary music, but will honor the career of the late and great Ms Summer, whose daring sense of musical adventure married the cool with the commercial to brilliant effect during 35 years of creativity.

That would make a great gift.

Donna Summer roller disco returning to City Hall Plaza

Strap on your roller skates and get ready for some disco dancing, because for the second straight year there will be a celebration at City Hall Plaza in honor of the late Donna Summer, the legendary Boston-born disco diva.

On Friday, June 19, the “The Donna Summer Memorial Roller Disco” will again commemorate the life of the singer, whose tunes will flow from outdoor speakers as participants take to eight wheels and get their groove on.

Summer, a five-time Grammy winner, died in 2012 at the age of 63. She is considered one of the city’s most successful performers, and went on to sell millions of records worldwide during her career.

Attended a Memorial Tea Dance at Hunter's in Wilton Manors last Sunday to celebrate the anniversary of her passing. It was great to hear all her classics in a club environment.

Dim All the Lights for Donna Summer: My Personal Memories of One of the All-Time Great Singers

May 17 marks three years since Donna Summer died unexpectedly, having kept her illness a secret to even those she regarded as close friends. Though her passing was widely reported at the time, the coverage was limited in scope, as so much of it boxed in one of our most virtuosic vocalists as the "Queen of Disco," essentially burying her with a mirrored ball tied to her feet (which she would have loathed).

I was troubled that so many of the obituaries were dry, fact-based lists of her accomplishments, wholly lacking in heart, failing to convey the true measure of her spirit or cultural impact. I knew Donna and worked with her over the years. On this anniversary, I want to share my feelings about her in a way that more vividly and emotionally reflects her legacy.
