Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) - (Chromeo & Oliver Remix)

I'm glad there are a lot of us in the gay community who did forgive Donna. As well as her responding with grace and humility rather than forget us or demean us and be bitter and contentious. I'd rather remember her for the music and the soaring voice, and the good memories it gave her fans that will last their lifetimes.

Wasn't crazy about the new remix for FOTT, but slowly growing on me. What a glorious voice until the end.

Donna Summer Remix Album Due In October

The legacy of the late Donna Summer continues to live on, as a new remix album celebrating the diva's career is due out in October.

"Love to Love You Donna" will be released on Oct. 22 through Verve Records, and is produced by Dahlia-Ambach Caplin and Randall Poster. The project features new re-workings of classic Summer tunes from the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper, Chromeo & Oliver and Hot Chip, among others.

The legendary Moroder, who co-produced most of Summer's albums released between 1975 and 1980, contributes a pulsating remix of "Love to Love You Baby" for the project. Moroder recently premiered the cut live during his DJ set at the Way Out West festival in Gothenberg, Sweden (Aug. 9). Moroder co-wrote the song with Summer, and it became her first hit single on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 2 on the chart in February of 1976.

Knuckles and Kupper reworked "Hot Stuff" for the collection, while Hot Chip took on the classic album cut "Sunset People," from the "Bad Girls" album. The new set's first single is Chromeo & Oliver's remix of "Love Is In Control (Finger On the Trigger)."

Music Review: Donna Summer's Pop Domino: 'Lady of the Night' Turns 40

Love to Love You Baby (Casablanca, 1975) impacted, its ripples had a lasting effect on popular music and the woman who brought it to life. However, Donna Summer's musical odyssey did not begin with the rhythmic erotica present on that long player.

Summer's debut, Lady of the Night (Groovy, 1974), is still obscured in her discography, as music historians often confine the singer to her output from 1975 through 1979. Undoubtedly a pioneer in the disco style, Summer's wider pop experiments are wrongly disregarded; Lady of the Night was a compass for the diversity encapsulated in her career. The album also evinced her stature as the birth mother of the transformative pop model that others followed (Madonna, Kylie Minogue).

Those chameleon tendencies of Summer's were nurtured in gospel and later contemporary rock as a teen ? Summer was a member of the Bostonian based band Crow. Summer debunked to Munich, Germany in 1967 for theatre work where she'd sharpen her singing skills. After appearing in several successful productions, Summer recorded her first single ? a German version of "Aquarius" from the musical Hair. While singing behind Three Dog Night, Summer intersected with two up-and-coming talents, Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte.

I think she is underrated as a singer. "Queen of Disco" aside, there are very few who can match what she did on Bad Girls, and I think she deserves credit as an innovator, too, since nothing before 1977 sounds like "I Feel Love". Gone too soon.

Very underrated indeed! There wasn't anything she couldn't do: pop, rock, disco, r&b, gospel, blue, opera, jazz, musical theater and even country. She's also an accomplished painter.

When she and Giorgio Moroder recorded "I Feel Love" they basically created the blueprint for techno and today's dance music. Still influential to this day.

I'm sure her family will see that history proves it. Her legacy was well established years ago.

Re: Favorite Donna Summer song?

A lot of great selections. I chose "other" because she has so many others I love in addition to the ones above. "Spring Affair", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", "On The Radio", "The Wanderer", "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)", "State of Independence", "Oh Billy Please", "Dinner With Gershwin", "All Systems Go", "Love's About To Change My Heart", "I Don't Wanna Get Hurt", "Melody of Love (Wanna Be Loved)" and "I Will Go With You (Con te partirò)" are a bunch of other favorites. It's hard to choose just one when Donna was undoubtedly one of the best female singers/vocalists in the world. She never got much praise for her work after disco died out.
