I first heard this song yesterday and luved it right away. What got me were the lyrics.

This song is awesome, it could be a gay anthem.

When i first heard the lyrics all i thought about was gay love, and how its forbidden, and how laws and people don't approve of gay couples. In some countries it is still illegal to have gay sex. So when i heard this song i was like wow, just what we need. I am sure Akon is not a gay advocate but this is an awesome song, open to interpretation.

At first i though it was a rework of the Cher song, "I Got You Babe" but its just the one line. I really like this song. So i need to get a boyfriend so he and i can fight for our love :D (!) .

i'm obsessed with this song. it has a sick beat and I just love listening to it.
I definitely agree that it can be heard as a gay rights song and think thats kind of cool.

I feel like Akon is one of those artists (imo) that can do no wrong. His songs are always catchy and fun to listen to.
I also feel that way about Sean Paul. His songs all turn to gold. I love them both.

Video is crappy, but I can see this getting a remix treatment and hitting the gay bars like crazy LOL. Nice song!

The chorus of this song is great, but the verses are lifted straight from R. Kelly's IGNITION (REMIX). I hate when artists rehash what somebody else has done and try to pass if off as their own.
 
This is so weird!

I was just listening to this song, surfing the web, really just letting it play in the background. Then as I started to pay attention to the lyrics, the first thing that came to mind when he says "nobody wants to see us together but it don't matter no" was gay marriage. And then I remembered I saw some thread title here and just had to share my thoughts.

Cool stuff! Just when I was getting comfortable with hating Akon, he surprises me.
 
Just checked billboard and Don't Matter is the number 1 song in America (!)

Can i pick em or can i pick em. From the moment i heard this song i just knew it was something special. It's such an awesome song on so many levels.

Akon is the epitome of why the music industry needs a makeover. He makes money using a computer and the sound exactly then same in every song he is featured on. Bor-ing. I don't see the hype. At all.

i agree!

akon has the shittiest tone i've EVER heard and i can't stand him! two of his songs sound EXACTLY the same!! convict and that other crappy one.. i think it's the one where he gets to listen to an ipod in jail. :roll:
 
I like the song & thought it had "gay anthem" potential too...unfortunately the video doesn't do it justice...

And LOL at some of these people who are criticizing Akon...maybe they should take a second & think about they're own musical preferences...its a lesson to never take other people's opinions here seriously

The video is ok so you can see him half naked and sporting bulge action but yes it could have been so much bigger and sent a wider message.

Remember that "Beautiful" video by CA she actually depicted a gay couple kissing and all and a transvestite getting dressed.

Akon could have done that too and depicted two men and two women and a man and his fleshlight, and the song would have been bigger.
 
He's ok not a real big fan of Akon myself. The song is cool havent seen the vid for it myself though.
 
LOVE Akon...count me in as someone who thinks he can do no wrong.

His first album Locked Up was so great. My favorite song by Akon is Ghetto...what an anthem for today's society.
