Downton Abbey

I can't read this thread yet because part II hasn't aired in Canuckistan yet.......*sobs*

Well, I've just finished Season 2 and I have to say, it was rather anti-climactic.

Maggie Smith, still superb - lots of wonderful humour. Not sure what other projects Penelope Wilton had going on but could have done with more screen time for her.

Edith's character has developed well, though the story concerning the burn victim seemed to fizzle and went nowhere.

I know a few people have said they Sibyl/Branson arc was the most interesting - and it's true to an extent but Branson just got so insufferably self-righteous. Couldn't stand him towards the end.

I don't know - this season was quite hit and miss for me.

I haven't actually read any of this thread, as I'm worried there may be some spoilers buried within.. I'm on Season 2 - I do believe I've seen up to Episode 3. I've been busy so not had chance to catch-up, but it awaits my on my hard drive..

Think it's a fantastic programme - I was talking to my parents (who also enjoy it) a few days ago, and my grandpa would have been a small boy when during the period it's set around..

Has anyone read this novel and can you recommend it?

It's been praised by Stephen Fry and lady Antonia Fraser.

My Aunt has been inquiring into getting Downton Abbey [Seasons #01 and #02] on Blu-ray.

I looked at Amazon.com, but I wasn't sure if the wording about "Original U.K. Edition" meant there would be any prevention playing such Blu-ray discs on a U.S. Blu-ray player.

I haven't seen Downton Abbey at all. I don't usually get mixed up over these matters.

Can anyone help? (Thanks.)

I believe it has to do with how the episodes were originally broadcast. The British version originally aired as seven episodes, whereas when aired in the US, it was done in four episodes of 90 minutes.

This article explains it.

Whatever changes there may or may not have been, I believe were minor at best.

As for region coding, I believe the US is region A whereas the UK is region B.

..|That's genius casting! I've also heard rumours that the shows producers want to get Roger Moore to play an ex admirer of Dame Maggie Smith's character's affections. That would be so amazing too!

Yes, looking forward to it. I want to see McLaine square off against Dame Maggie!
