Recently I started a new blog called Writing in Shadows. It was supposed to be a journal of what I go through while working on a new script idea and also about my creative recovery as I undertake The Artist's Way course.

I didn't assume anyone would read it, I actually assumed it would be of no interest to anyone other than me.

This afternoon when I was on twitter, I could a mention so I popped over to that page to see who'd messaged me. It came from an account I've never heard of but it mentioned my twitter account as a highlight in The Life Gazette which had just been released.

I assumed it was spam, but I went and had a look at the twitter account it came from and it seemed legitimate. I still assumed they were just randomly mentioning people so I clicked on the link.

Right down the bottom of the page was a link to a blog post I put up yesterday called Thanks For the Memories. I am completely stunned. This is the first time I've ever been "published" so to speak and I had absolutely no idea it was going to happen. Here's the link if you're interested http://paper.li/GoodBlogPosts10/1317088397

Considering the whole purpose of the blog was to see if I could find the inspiration to push through and write something of substance for the first time in 6 years, this has to be one of the best surprises I've had.

 right now I'm so happy I could burst.

As I've mentioned a time or two before, when I grow up I want to be a writer. Actually I want to be a film maker, but I figured at my age that probably wasn't going to happen, so I'd have to settle for being a writer.

Anyway, I've decided to make it happen. Nothing in life happens without a risk or two. Turning my short film Young at Heart is one of those risks.

I'm a big believer in creative visualisation. I like to have a focus point to look at. Something that helps me believe it's already been achieved. So in a boredom induced moment today I mocked up a movie poster, to act as that focus point.

It's not brilliant - as a designer it highlights how good a writer I am - but it has a job to do and I think it'll do it. What do you think of it??

So yesterday I was in a bit of a revamp mood. I decided that seeing as Writing in Shadows seems to be here to stay I'd go all out and buy it a URL of it's own.

I ended up getting www.writinginshadows.com which was good. I didn't want to have to change the blog name.

I also gave it a bit of revamp and changed the theme etc. I'm considering buying a premium theme if it continues to get the readership it's been getting lately.

Anyhoo, would love your feedback on the theme I chose. I'm not 100% certain it's the right one. What do you think?

So I put up a post on my blog Writing in Shadows today and was surprised to see it was my 100th post. Given the milestone, I thought I'd share it with you today.

The More I Read

As part of my attempt to overcome my fear of people actually reading my writing, I joined a writers workshop. The first exercise of the year was to write 2 scenes, one involving a phone call and one involving another character observing the phone call. It also had to portray an emotion. I decided to write a "happy phone call" and somewhere along the way, my inner Stephen King popped in and wrote the second scene

Anyway the feedback in the Writers' Workshop is extremely positive on the piece, so I decided to put it up on my blog Writing in Shadows. If anyone has a spare couple of minutes and would like to have a read here's the link.

Happy Darkness

I went and read it as well. Surprisingly you are exactly at the same stage in your life as I was at your age. I have no good news for you as I am still at that same stage 20yrs later.

So Thursday night I went out, met the campest straight boy ever lol.

Friday I woke up with a cold.

Other things occurred that have nothing to do with either of those first two statements.

Record a Change - new post at Writing in Shadows.

I love pictures of abandoned places. I don't know why, I just do. I find them emotionally charging. I saw some today that made me feel like my carousel was spinning in tune again.

Of Inspiration and Other Things at Writing in Shadows.

I have a fear of people reading my writing. Whenever people tell me it's good I panic that I'll never be able to keep it up, when they tell me it's shit I crumble in a ball.

So in order to get beyond the fear I submitted a short screen play to a theatre workshop called Script-In-Hand.

Don't know if it will do anything, but I don't care. I submitted it, despite having to force myself to press send on the email.

Leap and the net will appear... I hope!

I used to love blogging but like so many things this year, it's sort of fallen to the wayside in an attempt to be focused on work and my novel. Still, here's a blog from today
