I got to see Dreamgirls tonight and I was just dying with anticipation. About 10 minutes into the movie I started emotional for some reason, and five minutes later I knew it was the best movie I've ever seen.

I laughed, I cried, I loved.

This is seriously the best movie I have ever seen and I cannot wait to see it again next week. I seriously wanted to cry after it ended, it was that good. People cheered, clapped and hollered after several of the performances, it was that amazing.

Go see it, even if you're not a fan of musicals.

Every single person in this movie was amazing, from Jennifer, Beyonce, Jamie, Eddie and every single person.

I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!!!

I cannot wait to see this one!

I'm glad that you had a great time and I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. :)

Xmas day.

What the hell is it about, anyway?

I'm not crazy about Beyonce as an actress. And I wasn't crazy about her when she was lead singer of "Three Black Girls In Search of a Note" (hey... it's a little nickname I have). I probably won't be crazy about her in this, either.

Is the American Idol girl really THAT good? Because if so, I just might see it... she seems nice enough from interviews. But the clips I've seen haven't really blown me away.

I saw it at the Ziegfeld last weekend... never have I seen a movie where the audience have a standing ovation in the MIDDLE of a movie when Jennifer Hudson concluded 'And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going". She is everything everyone has said about her... as for the film itself, it definately has its flaws, but it has a good enough payoff for me to overlook it.

Her name is Jennifer Hudson. Study it. Learn it. Not even Beyonce's whack acting can taint the PERFECTION that is Jennifer Hudson in this movie. Yes, the movie overall has its flaws, but I'm telling you---LIVE AUDIENCES giving a standing ovation in the middle of a damn movie. It was just incredible. Every moment she's on screen is just absolute perfection.

And...

Dear..

Jesus.

She nails I'm Telling You I'm Not Going like no one has ever nailed anything in their lives before. For that kind of performance to come out of someone who's never acted before...it's breathtaking.

Variety has likened her performance in this movie to the debuts of Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler.

Here's the Wikipedia entry with the complete plot of the play:

The big show-stopping number:

Most people don't know that Nell Carter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nell_Carter was originally cast in the role of Effie White, but left during production to star in Ryan's Hope. By the time Dreamgirls premiered in December 1981, Jennifer Holliday had taken over the lead.

Here's Jennifer Holiliday's version as performed live at the Tony Awards in 1982:

And for comparison, the audio of Jennifer Hudson's version in the film:

And I am telling you
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I can ever go
No, no, there's no way
No, no, no, no way I'm living without you
I'm not living without you
I don't wanna be free
I'm staying
I'm staying
And you, and you
You're gonna love me, oohh ooh mm mm
You're gonna love me

And I am telling you
I'm not going
Even though the rough times are showing
There's just no way, there's no way
We're part of the same place
We're part of the same time
We both share the same blood
We both have the same mind
And time and time, we've had so much to see and
No, no, no, no, no, no
I'm not waking up tomorrow morning and finding that there's nobody there

And I mean there's no way
No, no, no, no way I'm living without you
I'm not living without you
You see there's just no way, there's no way

Tear down the mountains
Yell, scream, and shout like you can say what you want
I'm not walking out
Stop all the rivers, push, strike, and kill
I'm not gonna leave you
There's no way I will

And I am telling you
I'm not going
You're the best man I'll ever know
There's no way I can ever, ever go
No, no, no, no way
No, no, no, no way I'm living without you
Oh, Im not living without you, not living without you
I don't wanna be free
I'm staying, Im staying
And you, and you, and you
You're gonna love me

You're gonna love me, yes you are
Ooh ooh love me, ooh ooh ooh love me
Love me, love me, love me, love me

You're gonna love me

I hope Jennifer wins the golden globe for her role and I hope she gets nominated for an Oscar. She is so amazing. I cant believe they nominated Beyonce for Best Actress. The movie is about Effy I thought?

Beyonce was amazing in her own right. The movie is about The Dreams and some of the struggles of gaining fame.

It takes more than one actress to make a movie so let's give credit to everyone else, not just Jennifer Hudson.

Beyonce and amazing are two words that should not go together when referencing to Dreamgirls. Singing wise? Yes, she totally nails "Listen".

Acting wise...she's average. And the reviews have stated it.

This will be the last time I comment on anything Beyonce and anything Dreamgirls.

I loved the movie and every single performance in it.

Beyonce as well as Jennifer Hudson were both AMAZING and that's that.

I guess I just wont understand why everyone is hating Beyonce. I just don't understand.

I resent the word "hating" Beyonce. You're acting like there's some conspiracy to bring down this amazing talented actress.

It's simple. Her acting wasn't that good. There's nothing more to it than that.

You can say they both were amazing and "that's that" all you want. The reality is, most people disagree.

Poor Anika, got lost in all this bickering.

She's quite good in the movie as well...and honestly she deserves a nom too. She doesn't have any showstopping numbers of her own, but her characterization was amazing.

I finally got to see this thing today and overall it was a good movie but there was only one HUGE thing wrong about the film as a whole: the script was horribly under-written which dragged down the entire film. I'm surprised since Bill Condon won the Oscar for writing Chicago, but wow the first hour of the movie just zoomed by me!

The girls go from nobodies straight to headliners and before I know it Effie's kicked out and Deena becomes a superstar. The movie had no room for the characters to develop so I had absolutely NO emotional connection to ANY OF THEM. I felt bad they kicked Effie out but not enough for me or the audience I feel to actually want to cry for her which was what I was hoping to feel.

Jennifer & Eddie absolutely must be nominated for their respective Oscars and even Miss Knowles for co-writing the soaring ballad "Listen" (her only good performance in the entire film-seriously!) Everyone did an amazing acting performance (again, except for Deena; sorry Beyonce please stick to singing).

The costumes & makeup were stunning and the performance numbers were nothing short of breathtaking. Again, because most of the characters weren't fleshed out and the pace of the film was so quick I was a little disappointed. Good film overall. Not great, though-as it should've been.
