Ummmm I think I might pull a Matthew Knowles and cry racism-JUST KIDDING!
Seriously, though what the fuck??? Bill Condon no Best Director???

Aside from Jennifer Hudson, I thought that movie had terrible direction and screenplay. It just didn't pull me in. I felt it was lacking some "umph".

Yes yes yes on the HORRIBLE screenplay but Bill's direction was great, but with the Academy if it doesn't get a Best Picture nom the director most likely doesn't get nominated.....at least the film got the most noms all together.

LOL! Trust me the Dreamgirls shut out won't ruin my day....the Academy already fucked it up last year with the Brokeback shutout. I'm not surprised....

"Seriously", I can´t believe such outdated sort of big mainstream productions are still going anywhere outside the Disney Channel and the like... oh wait, is it supposed to be some sort of cinematographical breakthrough because it features an "all-black" cast
That flick is lame as lamé.

How does a movie get 8 nominations but then not one for best picture? I'm confused. Then again its The Oscars. Brokeback anyone?

It got more nominations than any other pic. Consider the age of the majority of those eligible to select nominations and then consider that musicals are not strong Best Picture candidates. Except for Chicago and Moulin Rouge the genre has been overlooked a lot. Also consider the politics involved.

Jennifer and Eddie did get their worthy nominations, it picked up 3 for Best Song, a rare feat and was nominated in 3 other categories.

So would you like some low fat cheese with your whine?

I think the academy just wanted to make sure under no interpretation no matter how stretched could one say that beyonce was nominated for an oscar lol

If you like musicals (and I do,) it's a very enjoyable film, but it doesn't deserve a best picture nod.

And Little Miss Sunshine, which obviously has no chance of winning, does deserve a nom.

Come on.

This movie was a thousand times better than Chicago and somehow that won.

^I liked Chicago better because it was more clean-cut and smooth in its production, direction and acting. Also, Chicago had more than one performer/performance that was exceptional.

I wasn't feeling Beyonce, or Jaime Foxx as actors (Jaime Foxx looked bored half the time). The third original Dreamette was forgettable (I can't even remember her name), and Eddie Murphy didn't veer far from his typical roles, so it wasn't challenging for him.

Too much Hollywood hype.

I was pretty disappointed with this...I'd give it a 5/10. Over the last couple years, I gotta say Moulin Rouge was by far the best musical imo.

Agreed! So much hype for an awful film! And Beyonce is so overrated! Maybe she's the reason they didnt get the nom for best picture (not to forget her father's stupid comments!)

All that brag about Dreamgirls leading with 8 nominations is like huh? Com'on. 3 of them are in songs category. That means only 6 category, really.

I am not really interested in this year's Oscar - exp to see Hudson and Mirren winning.

Anyone thinks that Ellen is brought in to get gay fans to forgive Oscar for last year's evil result?

Best musical? Really?

I love MR. But I'll stick Julie in the Sound of Music. : )

Can anyone who thinks it was shut out honestly say that it was better than any of the other 5 pictures?

I haven't had the time to go see it yet. It just seems really different than all the other movie musicals that have came out the last couple years. e.g. Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, The Producers, and another that's slipping my mind at the moment. This year should be a good one for musicals again. Johnny Depp will star as in the title role of Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a Sondheim classic. Also Hairspray is coming out, but with John Travolta as Edna? Umm, not sure yet. It does have an allstar cast in it though. I was talking with some friends if Wicked would be a good one to turn into a movie. We agreed it would be hard because of the Wizard of Oz link and probably most of it would be done on green/blue screen for background and special effect reasons. What do you all think?

I was shocked when I saw the nominations, especially after its Golden Globe win, and I'd hate to pull the race card, but with a snub this big its hard not to. Honestly, think of the last time a black film was awarded Best Picture?

Even The Color Purple, which had like what? 14 nominations...didn't even win a single award. Don't be surprised if the same happens here.

Now don't get me wrong, I thought Dreamgirls was a very flawed movie, but since when have the Oscars REALLY given the Best Picture award to movie that was really "the best"? It's all about campaigning, buzz, and momentum, and Dreamgirls had all of that. Would I have been shocked if it didn't win? No, I don't think it deserved to. But I promise you if the movie had an all white cast, it would have at least been nominated.

Btw, I know I'm going to get crucified for this theory..lol

It's just my opinion

It wasn't the best picture. Period. It had a very week lead actress in the lead role, whether you like her singing or not. As far as the race card LAST YEAR CRASH WON, you know that movie about racism... but I could see where you'd say that because hollywood one of the most notriously liberal areas in the world just must be racist because Dreamgirls only got how many nominations?

Yes, one of the most notoriously liberal areas in the world that not only completely snubbed The Color Purple, but also snubbed Brokeback Mountain.

Crash is NOT a good example. Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Ryan Phillippe, there were many white people in the movie. In fact the only person nominated from the movie was a white man. Best performance in the movie, yes...but I'm just refuting your point. Crash may have been ABOUT race relations, but it wasn't a BLACK movie like Dreamgirls or The Color Purple or Ray.

Crash was a good ole alternative to giving it to the homos, and it of course, also happened to be a great movie.

Btw, have you forgotten...that "Crash", a movie ABOUT racism...took place IN L.A.?????

I know just as many liberal racists as I do conservative.
