I was just in the kitchen contemplating what to make for supper when movement out the back window overlooking the parking lot caught my eye. I thought I was seeing things. I wasn't.

Waddling across the gravel laneway toward the street was a Mallard duck followed closely behind by the drake. I knew I would never have time to fetch my camera so I just stood at the window and watched for the few seconds it took them to pass.

I've never seen them this far away from either the river or the lake, not even in flight, but I'm very happy that they dropped by for a visit.

I was gonna say ain't nature grand but then i remembered my ongoing mouse problems, birds scare the hell out of me.

We have had a few ducks back on the pond this past month, but they are just passing through.

It doesn't seem like we see ducks here like we used too. They're getting run out by Canadian Geese

By afternoon, we always have the ducks come for a visit. Actually, they feed under the bird feeders then when full, they move about 10 feel way and sleep in the grass. They are so used to us, that they only move a little ways away when we come outside. On our property, we have a pond and creek and the ducks are often there along with so many turtles sunbathing on a fallen tree in he pond which we left there just for them.

Here ducky ducky ducky!

*prepares orange sauce*

Not nice Vannie [-X ^

Ever since Ali posted a picture of a bluebird we have had a small cluster of cardinals move into our area. I see them just about every day out the kitchen window. Its a big deal to me because I have only seen one single one at a time fleetingly in the Winter.

I used to take care of a swimming pool at an apartment complex, and a pair of ducks would enjoy a swim around once in a while.I love Ducks :)

On rare occasions I'll see a pair of ducks down the street. A few years ago we occasionally saw some closer to us. Alistair is right, in some places geese have taken over instead.

No ducks nor swans here on the Riviera.

No ducks around my land, but many other things. I have cardinals, wrens, Baltimore Orioles, woodpeckers, rosy finches, thrushes, nuthatches, chickadees, blue jays, doves, owls, and hawks. There must be 20 squirrels on my lot. Occasionally, a raccoon or skunk wanders through. A family of maybe nine deer were passing through each morning very early in the winter. Haven't seen them lately.

A bullfrog was in the pool again yesterday, full grown. Not sure, may have been a cow frog, as it looked like eggs circulating in foam I had to skim out. Had just shocked the night before.

A young rabbit has been munching on the lawn while I have been digging ferns and hauling brush and she doesn't even run away as I cut a wide berth around her. Not eating my bedding plants either.

I enjoyed picturing your ducks. Thanks for sharing.

And I thought it would be about the search engine.

A Pond and a creek. Ducks and turtles. It sounds like heaven. :D

One time we had some wild turkeys in our yard that was quite a surprise.

On the pond behind us we have a family of ducks with 10 ducklings and a family of geese with 5 goslings. Plus the blue heron wades through from time to time.

That is AWESOME Neil! Hopefully they stick around for awhile. ..|

There used to be a family of ducks on a little waterway near my customer in Seattle. From when they were babies, I would always make sure that I had bread with me to feed them. They actually either recognized my truck (or bothered all the truck drivers) -- because, every time I would be there (around every 2 weeks), they would all come running up to the drivers side window for me to throw out the bread. I loved it!!!

I think they were lost. There's no water in close proximity. They usually hang out at Little Lake and that's about 8 blocks away on the other side of the city.
