'Duck Dynasty' Under Fire Following Star's Incendiary Anti-Gay Remarks

Phil Robertson has no one to blame but himself, and as it's come out he has said even more incendiary things. When the Dixie Chicks ripped President Bush some years back among other things saying they were ashamed he was our President, I was critical they didn't say it here at home but certainly respected their right to free speech and in many ways understood way they came from. I absolutely didn't want to see their careers killed as a country oriented group. Yet the far right that screams about Phil Robertson's free speech rights being violated were in bloodlust to boycott and destroy the Dixie Chicks.

When JC Penney hired openly lesbian Ellen de Generes as their celebrity spokesperson last year a group associated with the ultraconservative American Family Council, the so-called "One Million Moms" made it their business to call for a nationwide boycott of JC Penney unless they dropped Ellen, who they claimed didn't represent mainstream family values as an out lesbian. Where was the right defending free expression in those cases... I'm sure we could speak of a litany of circumstances where the right didn't give a rat's ass about free expression but clamping down on others expressing their views... or just being who they honestly are.

This whole Duck Dynasty free speech malarkey quacks me up, immensely!

Quacks me up. Good one! I love the Dixie Chicks and was happy for them when all the rednecks burned their CDs. They had to buy them first. The Chicks made a lot of money for that.

Beck said. “If we don’t get people to wake up to the fact that this is fascism, that we are not allowed to have another opinion …
So many people don't have even a clue what fascism is. I thought that Beck would know better than to just throw the word around gratuitously. The marriage of corporations/business and government is what fascism is.

This controversy has NOTHING to do with the government at all.

Bravo!! No wait, that's another network.

Great to see somebody pointing out and reminding us of the inconsistent and hypocritical "rebuttal" to the controversy, as the same tactics, except usually even more severe, are being used by the people trying to "defend free speech" now. Some people believe that free speech is only supposed to be allowed when it's something you AGREE with, right?

Jindal is too smart to believe the crap he's parroting. He's running out of notches of respect to be knocked down.
A smart guy cannot also be one of the major voiceboxes of The Party of Stupid.

You know, Gov. Jindal prefers that he be called "Bobby". I think we should respect his wishes.

President Obama's full name is "Barack Hussein Obama" yet we don't call him "Hussein".

Piyush Jindal is his name. His parents are Amar and Raj Jindal, immigrants from Punjab, India. They arrived here 6 months before he was born. He is an anchor baby state governor, not the President of the United States.

Feel free to call the President by his name, Barack Hussein Obama. He has been called much worse by your side.

Well for the Republican Party as it stands today, the evangelical right & Wall street/big business are the base. They also write the big checks and turn out their voters consistently, esp. in non-presidential elections when Democrat leaning voters don't bother to vote. So, any Republican running for national office or state office in a "red state" will have to gain favor with that base. Gays/feminists/atheists/Blacks are the "base" for Democrats......most would never vote for the Republican no matter how "gay friendly" they are.

Gov. Jindal is the governor of Louisiana & "Duck Dynasty" is filmed there. Filming that TV show in Louisiana brings jobs and $$$ to Louisiana. Also the show serves as positive publicity to encourage tourism & people to buy the local Louisiana-made products shown on TV. Lastly the show is about a Christian family who become multimillionaires without giving up their traditional family values or Christianity. A lot of viewers - Southern & Midwestern viewers especially - love that, which is why the Robertson family is so popular & why "duck dynasty" is the most watched reality TV show.

Even a Democrat governor of Louisiana would not tell A&E to take their resources, jobs, and $$$ out of Louisiana.

And this is so because Nixon let the 'evangelicals' get a foot in, Reagan embraced them, and the GOP became the party of religious intolerance and bigotry.

Sorry springer. You are out to lunch here. Homosexuals are not denied the Grace of God or the possibility of heaven by the Catholic church. In fact, homosexuality is acknowledged by the church as a God given natural state. And as Pope Francis said this year...'Who am I to Judge?'

And apparently the Ducks have lost 76 percent of their viewing audience in the last week.

Who said it wouldn't be a Merry Christmas?

You're confusing a PR comment with a doctrinal issue.

That sounds like a racist statement Bob.

I am not. Ever hear of Papal infallibility? And as for the first part of my post, it is simple doctrinal fact.

BTW.

Unfortunately it looks like Duck has lost only 71.6% of their audience this week. I overstated in my previous post. But let's not be disingenuous here. It was his comments on how happy the blacks were with the Jim Crow laws that might have just woken up a lot of people who revel in watching white trash realize that their skin had started to crawl.

You're still not getting it. The theology of the RCC has not changed. The Pope in his recent comments is wanting to 'change the focus' away from the topics of homosexuality, abortion' he is not changing the church's doctrine.

I can see how you can fall for people like Obama .. who promise things you like and believe in, then doesn't really provide those changes.

You're not getting it. Unlike your Duck Dynasty religious nutcakes, the Catholic Church recognizes homosexuality as a genetic state and not in and of itself a sin. The Catholic Church also acknowledges that penitence for any carnal 'sin' gets you into a state of grace...the church is founded on the principle of God's forgiveness. The knuckle dragging southern baptists do not believe this. They just believe that homos have chosen their deviant nature and are damned because of free will. No matter what.

So sorry that your favourite program is going down the tubes. You can watch re-runs of Honey Boo Boo instead.

That sounds like a racist statement Bob.
Dwight David Eisenhower - racist statement
John Fitzgerald Kennedy - racist statement
Lyndon Baines Johnson - racist statement
Richard Milhaus Nixon - racist statement
Gerald Rudolph Ford - racist statement
James Earl Carter - racist statement
Ronald Wilson Reagan - racist statement
William Jefferson Clinton - racist statement
George Walker Bush - racist statement

We should show more respect to our former presidents. [-X

VIDEO: Duck Dynasty Star Says Gay People are Evil* Murderers

http://www.advocate.com/politics/me...nasty-star-says-gay-people-are-evil-murderers

Fear + hate = power. - Orwell

Sticks and stones, etc.

Since we are judged by the company we keep, Ms. Palin, Mr. Cruz, Mr. Jindal, Mr. Limbaugh, et al believe likewise - you know... National Security. Might this be a precursor to "relocation centers"? Just askin'.

Praise the Lord! :=D:

Happy Holidays!

*I don't know of any benevolent murderers.

Phil Robertson's destruction of his own lucrative franchise by virtue of his own hate speech is testament to the value of tolerance in American enterprise.

No, he isn't. The doctrinal issue is stated right above, and the difference is huge: on the one hand you have a position that says people have to stop being homosexuals in order to get into heaven, and on the other you have a position that says they don't. Those are the two doctrinal positions, and they are mutually exclusive.

Besides that, you're judging Francis negatively without cause.

Francis doesn't have to change the church doctrine -- it's already contrary to that of the fundamentalist view the DD patriarch quacked.

The amazing thing is that because he's famous some people think he can be a preacher.

Phil Robertson's destruction of his own lucrative franchise by virtue of his own hate speech is testament to the value of tolerance in American enterprise.

He'll still sell duck calls, though -- he's still the only one in the world with the mallard drake call.
