From GLAAD:

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe," said GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz. "He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans — and Americans — who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples. Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."
Phil Robertson may say anything he wishes - in accordance with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

So can I. Mr. Robertson... go to hell.

I just want to know who's shocked that hyper-christians like the Duck Dynasty crew were in any way lgbt-friendly to begin with.

Hands up if you believed that they were going to go for the "live and let live" way of life rather than fire and brimstone.

Also, cue the protests against, to be drowned out by the protests for, the ratings boost, and A&E addressing it by keeping them on the TV screen(it's not their first brush with a controversial star - Dog The Bounty Hunter is still in syndication of A&E, after all).

I will give him credit for not just singling us out, he called out others for a change. " Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won’t inherit the kingdom of God." I wonder if we have to pay an inheritance tax on the kingdom and I wonder about female prostitutes. Most of his viewers fit in views of sin.

Wonder if any the family members might be gay? Think John Luke is hot.

My C/W radio station has been playing Duck the Halls for awhile and it was driving me crazier. I finally had enough and looked them up on YouTube. When they get to the "fa la la lalala" they are blowing their duck call whistle thingys. It's just plain stupid. I saw where they dissed gays so I have no interest in them anyway. Fuckers all.

Only a matter of time before these hillbillies showed their true colors---they will probably endorse Creepy Cruz for pres next.

Ahhh...not surprising. Nor is it surprising that they tow out the good ol' "Love the sinner, hate the sin" meme that Christians (Fundies) particularly love....which is nothing but willful ignorance.

But hey, it's ok as long as it's wrapped up in a nice pretty package of politeness and Christian "love".

Yeah, it means "until the public forgets about this".

I had to look up "Duck Dynasty" to even see what this thread was about...

Don't you live in a rural area & you like to shoot guns, right?

I thought you would have known about this show.

Apparently it's really popular. I saw "Duck Dynasty" posters and toys for sale at the mall.

.

From UPI:

Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson on indefinite hiatus after anti-gay remarks

indefinite hiatus - euphemism of the week.

He'll be back.

That "hiatus" is about new filming. They already finished filming the new season which will premiere in January.

A&E is in a tough spot because this has been a ratings gold-mine for them. It's the highest rated reality TV show, ever.

Boycotts won't work because gay people & more "urban" people don't watch this show. But people who live in the country & in the South & evangelical Christians & Republicans LOVE this show. Sarah Palin (a hunter herself) is a friend & a big supporter of the show.

If anything, sadly, more people will watch this show now.

The blogs & news sites are full of really mean comments towards us folks right now :(

I couldn't care less what this grotesque looking redneck has to say about anything..

Glad the redneck got the boot. Now if we can get his evil twin Pat to STFU too it would be a much better world.

And surprise, surprise...... they're republicans.

To complete his idiocy, he also makes racial slurs.

In a quote that may raise even more eyebrows than his feelings about gays, Robertson claims he "never" saw black people mistreated during the pre-civil rights era in his home state, and strongly suggests that African Americans were more content under Jim Crow.

He says he's a product of the 60's and a former substance abuser who found Christ. He traded one addiction for another. The guy is a complete moron. I see why Sarah Palin is a fan of the show. Uneducated pinheads can relate to each other.

I would be less likely to watch it than to watch hunting shows, which are invariably about and for rich people who can afford to spend $4k on a hunting trip where they spend another couple $k for hunting licenses and tags and then another couple for a guide ad stuff. THose at least might have some useful information about hunting.

It's amazing how many comments I've read (not from this thread), but from blogs, social media, and news sites that dont understand the concept of the 1st amendment. When was he ever arrested by a govt agency for his thoughts? Exactly, his rights were not violated. The man is still enjoying freedom just like you and I. However, the Constitution won't protect you from the consequences. A&E is owned by Disney and we all know Disney is a huge ally of the gay community.

Republicans and Christians are something else. They cheered when Trayvon Martin's killer walked free but get in a titsy over a stupid TV show. The epitome of double standards, illogical thinking, and narrow mindedness.

I don't know who they are and I am 100% positive I would never watch this show but Louisiana and her residents have made themselves clear and along with Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia are home to the least tolerant individuals in the US.

No surprise Palin loves the show....I guess her fans will see the publicity whore in a guest spot soon so she can spotlight the "Real Americans".

Wow. I am good. I predicted Sarah Palin would get involved in this somehow.

And she did.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/duck-dynastys-phil-robertson-defended-666839

Sarah Palin has come to the defense of embattled Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson. After A&E placed Robertson on indefinite hiatus for making anti-gay remarks, Palin tweeted her support of the reality star.

"Free speech is endangered species; those 'intolerants' hatin' & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all," she tweeted.
